Wind is really whipping at my location north of Birmingham. Probably have a gust to at least 35 mph so far.

Bham International has a max gust of 46.

My cousin works at a plant. The higher ups are sending in a crew to freeze protect for an arctic blast the last month of January.

After the severe weather clears we need to start talking about pipe busting cold. GFS showing mid 50s next Monday morning and mid 20s by dusk

Yeah, it looks like we could be in the cusp of a pretty major cold snap. Coldest air so far this winter. Winter weather could also be an issue for parts of the south. Still too far out to know for sure, though.

However many there’ll be, you can be damned sure none will be started by me as I am perfectly capable of knowing when a pipe is frozen or not. Definitely sure of that.

I’m not surprised. I wish I had an anemometer up higher at my house so I could get a more accurate measurement.

We had sustained at 35 and a gust to 44 about an hour ago at the closest station to me. I'm ~45min to your north probably.

That's what I was talking about yesterday in regards to the Mobile area. I said it may look like a bust until it isn't. Definitely have a way to get warnings that will wake you up if you're in that area and go to bed tonight.

It was apparent coming into today the line wasn’t going to really ramp up until Se Louisiana

Pre-frontal instability was going to be tough to come by, limiting pre-frontal severe weather as we saw. Just enough of a cap today. Thought the lack of widespread rain might help boost instability but we didn’t see that.

12z Euro had teens along the gulf coast early next week. Long way out but worth watching since it falls in line with what the long range climo trends were hinting

Not sure if it was mentioned but they think they had a tornado hit in Labadieville in Assumption parish. Messed up the fire station and a few businesses next to it. Plus a mobile home.

Yeah, I think the severe threat is probably limited for LA at this point. We will see if some instability can work in for south Alabama and the Florida panhandle.
