Just got back from a 15 minute trip to the store. In that short trip I had two separate old people pull out in front of me forcing me to slam on my brakes. Acted like they didn’t even see me. One was a dude the other a woman both looked to be 80+. Don’t get me wrong I love my elders but I don’t want to be taken out by one. Driving privileges for those over 80 needs to really be scrutinized.

Rant over.

After age 70, you should have to retake the test at intervals of like every couple years.

They put an old folks home near my place. Since they started moving in, it’s been a dangerous situation. They cut thru our neighborhood that’s loaded with young kids.

They drive like absolute retards and honk at kids for riding their bikes in the street.

A 78 year old man in a Kia Soul ran a red light and hit my sister last year. Totaled her car. The dude came through the intersection so fast that he hit her, clipped another car, crossed two turn lanes, clipped another car, and came to rest against a guard rail. All told he crossed the entire intersection and four lanes of traffic.

The older I get the more I realize how right I was in government class in high school. We broke up into groups and had to make up bills to introduce. Ours said old people over a certain age had to go to the DMV for regular check ins to confirm they could still drive. We had all kinds of stats to along with it. We got 0 votes

I agree. My grandmother was 84 and had no business behind the wheel but the state just kept renewing it site unseen. After she took out a 2nd mailbox I took her keys.

I call them blue tags

I get nervous anytime I see them on the road. Last year got behind one who were merging onto i40 at 25 mph on the on ramp. I drove past them on the shoulder of the ramp so get up to a safe speed.

My dad is 70. I thought i got him to stop driving. His car overheated. I told him engine was shot (needed a head job) and sold car to scrapper for $900.
He pulls out bike and I'm OK with that.
Well he went out and bought a car. Then first day lost it at Walmart. Second day loaded it with stuff and forgot he loaded it. 3rd day he gets pulled over for suspected DUI at 2am 45 miles away. No idea how he got there. Blew a 0.0 and let go. But car was impounded.
Get car drive home. Two days later he has it loaded with clothes again.

So I replaced the relay for the fuel pump with a switchable relay. Then I ran a arduino and have it set to turn the relay off after 6pm of its parked at the house.
I actually like my device and may produce it.
Basically I think I have made a time lock for cars.

I also have a GPS on the car and an airtag on his keys.

Since he's been restricted to day driving no issues.
He seems to lose his mind at nights.

Autonomous vehicles will eliminate the need for the elderly to even have a car in the short future.

He did a good job raising you if you suggested he get a head job after his car overheated, that’s a son looking out for his pop.
