Went to Rouses yesterday to get some crawfish tails for an eteauffee

They only had Bernards, from china. Well no chinese tails for me. Deception is rampant even from Rouses, "Bernards" tails are from China............

I haven't shopped with WMT for groceries in 20 years---quit then they started injecting "solution" in their meat and charging meat prices for it. Some of it up to 12% if you read the label.

Who the heck wants injected water and salt in fresh meat?

It depends on the manager I guess. The one in New Roads has been open for decades and is pretty nice and clean and well run, for being in freaking New Roads. They have a very good hands on manager there though. Their sales are gimmicky, with all the buy one get one free crap, but if you work them right there's deals to be had. I'll pay a little more to not have to deal with Wal-Mart. Winn Dixie is also good about hiring the high school kids and supporting the local school fundraisers. I think it's just better suited for small towns and not major cities where there are far better options.

W-D is very expensive, at the Albertson's level, and has terrible selection. This W-D fandom mystifies me.

I like the WD in New Roads. Extremely friendly staff, good selection, and decent, albeit dated, store.
Hate to sound like a creepy perv, but they hire some cute young girls to work there.
As you said, the extra money is worth not having to deal with Walmart

Winn-Dixie was my first job as a teenager. First day on the job was truck night. Was put up in a warm muggy truck unloading boxes and bales by hand. I knew that night that I was going to go to college and graduate. Lol

The Winn Dixie in Burbank is packed with students daily. If that store closes, someone else will gladly take over that location.

Rouses is being built across the street and a Matherne’s is being built on Nicholson across from the track stadium.

Winn Dixie is overpriced af. It's laughable.
It is overpriced, but I'll still shop at WD before I shop Walmart again.

My father has swore by Winn Dixie meat department for years. It’s never made sense to me with other gourmet butchers like Maxwells in the area.

You can't compare it to Maxwells. But, it's much better than Albertsons. Walmart is horrible.

I'd do that too if I was afraid of black people.

The BiLo deal a few years back was a leveraged buyout involving a hedge fund. they loaded it up with an insane level of debt. Sucked a whole bunch of cash out. With low interest rates the better part of the last decade, they were always on the edge of trouble, but they managed to stay on the good side. Rising interest rates means as that debt rolls over, they can't make the payments.

They are also stuck in middle market hell. They can't compete on price, and they aren't competing on service/selection. They are getting crushed from both ends.

They are like Sears, or Toys R Us. Just bleeding a slow death.

Butcher shops like Winn Dixie and Publix are legit. Those are the two grocery chains that put a huge emphasis on training meat cutters.

Those are the old days. They no longer butcher or grind their own meats. They come in factory cut. I've read that the ground meat that is factory ground is by contract a mixture of beef from 4 suppliers so that the suppliers are protected from being identified as the source if e.coli or listeria in the product causes illness.

Beyond that WD beef quality went to shite long ago. Virtually no marbling in their steaks. Roasts are precut and packed with no bones or visible fat layer. I guess some people, mostly ladies, prefer that. Boneless 7 bone steaks are a travesty. If you know how to cook, the fat, bones and marrow add a lot to the flavor. I started making bi-weekly trips to a pretty good butcher/slaughter house outside or Lafayette for all the usual beef cuts. Better and a whole lot cheaper.

I posted about it a few months ago. I’ve been a WInn-Dixie employee for 10 years, so I’m very concerned about this. My location is nice and is staffed with great folks, many of whom have been with the company for decades. Say what you will about WD vs the competition, tens of thousands of jobs are on the line. This sucks.

You job will be ok unless they close the store. The thing that would concern me if I were you would be corporate stiffing you on your last paycheck if they really do shutter stores, and I don’t know what kind of benefits or vacation time you get but if you have accrued vacation days or anything like that, I would go ahead and take those.

In my experience, Rouses doesn't beat any grocery store in pretty much any category.
