Sonoma / Napa driver NOT a tour

I know you can hire a town car to drive you around.....but all I know. Some on the food board have done this so you may want to start this thread over there......but not now. Do it during a weekday when more people are awake.

we did a tour so to speak... had a guy drive me and the wife around in a cadillac. its probably better to get someone who does this b/c the wineries aren't close to one another for the most part. they can help you maximize your time. id stick to sonoma personally....

try looking on Groupon. the wife and I did woke in Temecula. 5 wineries in a stretch escalade for maybe $100

+1 on the idea the previous poster had about doing Sonoma valley and Napa valley separately. You can spend a lot of driving time between the two, unless you go over the mountain in the middle (watch out for crazy CA cyclists going uphill!)

The Napa bee driven thing sounds like a good idea.

I'm not sure how much you are planning to drink, but when my wife and I went, I drove our rental car to each winery. We averaged a tasting about each hour when you factor in driving, walking around, tours, pictures, etc. I never felt buzzed while driving, I think the amount I was tasting and the time was a good balance.

Honestly at some of those places, you can look like quite a douche if you roll in there drunk off your arse.



In my experience, I think people really overestimate how much wine you'll be drinking. most of the bigger name places will let you try 5-4 types, with 1-2 oz of each. The smaller ones are seem to be more liberal, where some of the servers actually want you to taste many of their different wines based on what you like. Friendliness goes along way, and normally results in more tastings.

Big wheel is right. Your driver should make that known. I think it's ok in a limo though

Make sure there's a window between you and the driver, so you don't feel the need to have a drunken conversation with him.
