Second favorite son speaks.

quote:

'Second-favorite son' behind viral obituary shares story behind unique tribute

quote:

“He will be moderately missed.” “We don’t know if he was married, but he definitely was a lady’s man.” “As a gluttonous eater of fried foods and snack cakes, as well as the occasional chili cheese dog ...” None of the above are lines one might expect to come from the average obituary — but James Loveless didn’t live an average life, and it wouldn’t have been fitting for him to have an average obituary. Loveless, a Pulaski Countian who passed away on June 14 at age 60, has become known far and wide as the result of the obituary for him placed on the Pulaski Funeral Home website recently. The humorous, outside-the-box tone of the obit — available to read at https://www.pulaskifuneralhome.com/obituaries — comes courtesy of his son Rocky Loveless, who is identified in the text as being his father’s “second-favorite” son behind brother Rodney of Science Hill — “and I’m OK with that,” he noted to the Commonwealth Journal.

Great son!

as someone who is closer to 60 than he is 55, this hits home.

My uncle wrote his own obituary. It was full of things like "the 1934(?) N.O. Duncan yo-yo champion" and "States-Item Newsboy of the Week". I believe it totally left out his war record and most of his later accomplishments. It did included some long held business grudges. It was crazy. It was fricking hilarious!

His children, all seven of them, debated the "appropriateness" of publishing his obit as written. Thankfully, they finally concurred and published his final words. Our family is better for it!

I can't tell if the son genuinely hates his dad, or this whole thing was him being funny as a way to honor his dad.

My favorite lines......

quote:

Throughout his life, he was an accomplished hunter and birth control device tester (with some failures, notably Caitlin Connors, 33; Chris Connors, 11; and Liam Connors, 8).

quote:

Absolut vodka and Simply Orange companies are devastated by the loss of Connors. A "Celebration of Life" will be held during Happy Hour (4 p.m.) at York Harbor Inn on Monday, December 19.

And for the record, he did not lose his battle with cancer. When he died, the cancer died, so technically it was a tie!

I actually laughed out loud at this.

I'm going to have to write my own and have it at the ready. Update when needed. Hell, if newspapers are still around I'll leave enough money to buy a full page for my list of "frick yous".
