Have you ever heard one of her songs? She just breaths out a song. Its the worst
I have, and I've always thought her voice was better suited to actually sing.
But she makes a fantastic living doing it her way so it is what it is.
But there's plenty of videos/clips of her actually singing and utilizing the full potential of her voice and she is phenomenally talented.
ETA: Go find the videos of her on Jimmy Fallon playing wheel of musical impressions. Also (if it's still out there) the sketch she did when she hosted SNL where she is singing renditions of a few classics.
She has the voice talent, she just doesn't use it in most of her music.

I don't get it either, but at least she's not some shitty rapper.

She's basically this generation's equivalent to Michael Jackson, in terms of popularity and music success.
That's the quick answer.
I don't really get the infatuation with her. But at the same time, it doesn't bother me either.
It's a little annoying how many threads there have been about her though.

People your age said the same thing about the Beatles, Elvis and Michael Jackson, I'm sure. Not everyone has to like the things you do.

Michael Jackson?
Elvis?
The Beatles?
Cher?
Any of these guys has more talent in his or her left toenail than T Swift.

and is set to make a billion dollars (not an exaggeration) from her current tour.
Joe biden is set to make $30 million off Ukraine and a few other places, doesn't mean he has talent.

Michael had more talent on a bad day and a broken microphone.

I <3 Taylor Swift.
Going to the Eras tour movie with my son in a few weeks because we didn't buy him a ticket to the tour and ditched him with his grandparents.
I like that she a very generous artist. IE giving to the food bank in the cities where she performs. She recently gave over $55M in bonuses to her crew. Which even if you are insanely rich, is still a good bit of money.
Plus all the Easter eggs and planning she puts into her work is pretty impressive.

I think the question is why
Usually an artist either has a a huge sex appeal for fairly unique sound/act to get to that level
She doesn’t seem to have any of the above. It’s not that she is bad, but I don’t get either why she exploded
Adele and Gaga aren’t sex appeal either, but their talent and sound is fantastic. Spears amd Jlo didn’t have that much of a talent but their sex appeal was off the charts
Swift is none of the above

None of these people are current popstars, which was the reference point, and 4 of the 7 are deceased, one of them for almost 50 years.

Do you think I was trying to argue that Taylor Swift was more talented than Elvis or the Beatles?

Alright.

I mean, ok. But again, he is dead, and Taylor Swift is currently the biggest pop star in the world and has sold around 100 million records in her career.
I made no argument about her talent level or putting her in the pantheon of talent among all time pop stars.
Only stated a fact that she is currently the biggest pop star there is.

She's a brilliant vocal mimic. She can sound like Whitney, Britney, Celine, Shakira, Christina, Rihanna, Mariah.

This thread is another OT Classic full of misogyny, subtle racism, and old boomer nostalgia.
I am 42. She is not my thing but my wife loves her music. My 6 yo daughter is getting into Taylor Swift as a bonding thing with her mother. Same thing is going on with my son and my Star Wars obsession. Sharing things like music is a great way for parental bonding. I know dozens of parents who took their kids to the recent eras tour.

I do not follow pop music much, but why?
She's not singing songs like "Wet arse Pussy" or anything like that. That is the kind of thing I find sad.

Her voice is that of a 7th grader. "I'm feeling 22" really?

I took both of my daughters to her 1989 tour. I would've taken them to Era's- but they're too cool for TS now.
I like her songwriting now more than when she debuted on the country platform.
