Coldest draft beer I've ever had...

Fun Fact. I met Terry Bradshaw there in the 80's.. Don't know why he was there but he was drinking in the afternoon.

I hope Yellow Bird is still there. That was some of the best breakfast I had back in the day when visiting my friend on the way to Robert. Haven't been there since pre-Covid.

Don't know but it was good.

Have to give Mariners and Brady's a shout out.

Another fun fact.. New Orleans Original Daiquiris got it's start in Hammond.. Spring of 1983, it was basically a trailer converted to bar with a deck around it as you got into Hammon on Hwy 51 right off 55.

First Daquiri I had there was a "Reds Tornado".

They’re making another exit out of Chappapeela. They offer rec programs including soccer. STYSA is the local club, has both rec and competitive programs, and use the same park.

It’s culturally more common with Southern MS than it is with Southern LA.

Ive been one time. The little downtown area was nice until I got hassled for money by some gangsta wannabe while trying to put my kids in the car.
If I wanted that shite, I just wouldve gone to New Orleans. At least the food wouldve been better

I live about 20 miles from Hammond and I’ve always liked it. As far as distance, not a bad commute to NOLA or Baton Rouge. If you’re thinking of relocating, make sure you research builders in addition to schools, etc. Also want to get a flood insurance quote.

Traffic can kind of be a headache but being accessible from I-59 and I-12 gives you multiple options.

I know you meant 55...

Another Note: There's some really nice areas with beautiful houses near SLU's campus.

I would certainly say baseball is the strong suit but athletics in general are on the up and up. Football is consistently making the FCS playoffs and puts on one heck of a show on Saturday nights. Basketball (Mens & Womens) lost in the conference championship game last year as did softball. Soccer and Baseball won conference championships. Volleyball is way on the up and up.

Huge second for Tommy’s Pizza. I go there every time I am close.

Spent 4 years there in the late 2000s. Absolutely loved it.

There are a couple "sketchy" spots, but they are easily avoidable. They have a a couple of nice neighborhoods/areas but if you're looking for a big, new construction, you'll have to venture out some. If I bought a house in Hammond it would be in the neighborhood between downtown and the campus. Older houses with some size that aren't break the bank expensive.

Restaurant and downtown scene is really good. Have basically every type of restaurant you'd want and they are all really good. Bar scene is geared towards college kids, obviously.

Proximity to SLU is nice if you are a fan. You can get tickets to season tickets to basically any sport for next to nothing. It's easy to stop by and catch a few innings here and there. We went to the football game a couple of weeks ago and parked 300 yards from the field without any traffic issues. And the sports are all pretty good for the level and some are really good.

It's a small town. You can get from one side to the other relatively easy, as opposed to Baton Rouge and/or New Orleans. It has a real small town feel, too. But it's growing to where it's got larger town amenities.

The schools are part of the reason I don't currently live there. They have Holy Ghost and STA if you're catholic and are fine paying for school. The lab school is a pretty decent elementary school. But it doesn't have the options that BR has in terms of private options and the public options aren't as good as LP, AP or St. Tammany.

The other downside is also a positive. It's close to Covington, BR and NOLA, but it isn't super close like a true suburb. It's slightly too far to comfortably live there if you are commuting constantly to BR or NOLA for work/life events. If you were WFH or didn't have to make the drive 5 days a week, it wouldn't be terrible.

Golf- Oak Knoll isn't a bad little course, but it isn't great. Carter is nice, but it's open to the public. So it's missing the high end private country club that NOLA and BR have. But that's a first world problem and only if you're a golfer.

The shopping has gotten infinitely better in the last 15 years. The old mall, which was rundown, was expanded. They have a bunch of new stores, and Academy, Target, etc.

I feel 10x safer walking around Hammond than in Baton Rouge and NOLA. Never had an issue where I felt unsafe.

And this is big for me. I love Home Depot and Lowe's runs on a lazy weekend just to see what new shite they have or if I'm just bored. It's hard to do this in a New Roads or St. Francisville type rural area without going into Zach/BR.

Went to college there.

Awesome little college town if you are a student that stays on campus and enjoys the bars.

Not a great place post-graduate to live if you are single.

Decent place to raise kids if you can afford private school.

Downtown has some really good food, even with Tommy's not being what it was in the 2000s and early 2010s. SLU football and baseball are a good time if you know people or have kids that enjoy watching sports. Summer can be a ghost town though.

Wife and I moved to the area in 07.

Location wise has been great. Pretty much less than an hour from anywhere in the BR/NOLA area. Downtown is wonderful this time of year. Lots of places to sit outside and enjoy live music. Good food.

Bar scene is nothing like it was in the early 00s. There’s are still a few staples, but it’s pretty lacking. I don’t know what the kids do nowadays.

We have a Home Depot and two Chick-fil-a’s. Which is nice.
