Your wife wants a good ducking

My 1989 Chevy cavalier made up up a mountain logging trail in dugspur Va.
My rich fraternity brothers were pretty pissed when I got up there and back down.

My wife wants a Wrangler. I’m trying to talk myself into it, and see these videos of dudes driving slowly over rocks and big puddles in them. Why would anyone want to do that?
Personally, I do it occasionally to know what I can drive over and what I can't in a shite hit the fan scenario.

From what my limited knowledge the wranglers are cool. The rubicon trim models are made for more off road activities. The Sahara edition is more of a road version

Driving a 2003 Jeep wrangler over rocks and inevitably stuck in 3 feet of mud seems like a fun way to spend a Saturday.
Getting a 2025 Jeep wrangler over rocks and stuck in deep mud seems like a very stressful day to me.

I’m on my second jeep product, first was a 2 door rubicon soft top and currently in a softop gladiator. My better half just switched to a bronco from a 4 door wrangler that finally having a slight valve tick at 240,000 miles. All of that to say I absolutely loathe rock crawling and that bunch of people make Jeep owners look bad. I use to take my stock $24k rubicon to the Boggs and boulders off-road park and would go everywhere the 30-40k SxS would go within reason but had AC and could drive it home afterwards. I take my gladiator to every deer stand on my hunting lease and sometimes enjoy navigating the washouts more than the hunting.

I owned a Jeep and went to a half a dozen Jamborees as well as other off road parks. It was a fun hobby for 10 years but I moved on. I took my Jeep over obstacles that most could not believe. They are amazing vehicles.
What your wife wants is what off-roaders call a Mall Crawler.

I’m trying to talk myself into it,
I bought a 2017 Jeep in 2021- my F-150 was a POS and the warranty ran out, so I got rid of it. We really just wanted a convertible SUV, not a mud rider or rock crawler. It’s great because the top over the front seat comes off easily in 2 pieces, but the new Broncos have a 3 piece top that will allow you to take the top off the front seat and the back seat.
If I was buying a Jeep now, I’d find one with the Sunrider electric top- it’s a soft top roof with a hard top frame. You can roll the windows down and open the top without having to remove anything.
Also, as fun as the Jeep has been, the top leaks- not every time it rains, and it may leak from a hard drizzle and not a monsoon, there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason sometimes. I really want to pull all the carpet out of mine and spray it with bed liner and put rubber mats over it to help with the water, but I haven’t pulled the trigger on that just yet.

Hill climbing and general off-road excursions are great. A friend took me on some Jeep club outing and that's all we did - ridiculously rocky trails. You gotta be really into that shite because it isn't particularly fun. I don't get the appeal. For 2 or 3 hours we never got over .25 MPH and it's a definite no-go if you have back problems.
I guess that is fun in that part of the country… but we’re in the swamp
The closest you’ll get are some streets in New Orleans lol

quote:Dude, if you don't appreciate getting out in the woods in the mud, rocks, trails, then it may not be for you.
Why would anyone want to do that?
I grew up in the 70's in Charleston SC, worked in a gas station. The sailors and airmen from the local bases had serious hot rods. So I got one too and that was my appreciation for vehicles for most of my life. Did ride/own some dirt bikes.
But it wasn't until I got some property and ATV's that I began to really appreciate trail riding. Now, with two Jeeps (a 05 TJ Rubicon and a 2019 JLU Rubicon) I am in my happy place out on the trails.
Where was I last night about midnight after watching my LSU Baseball team win? Trail riding / bouncing around in the TJ with the top down, some edibles injested and an open beer. And guess what the best part is, there ain't no phucking POLEECE out here baby.
You should try it. Life is short.

Not the JLs (2018+). They are all kinds of fricked to work on.
As a someone who falls into the JL category you are right and wrong. I think it’s misleading to say they are fricked to work on.
The electrics introduced… you are 100% correct but something tells me that all modern vehicles. I’ve definitely said some cuss words while working on mine

I think it would be fun a few times but it’s a tough terrain etc things will probably break. To me it’s like off shore fishing (my opinion) I could do it a few times a year

Chicken bought one a few years ago. He's not chiming in because he doesn't want to admit it was a mistake.
