This is Louisiana.... Pretty much half of adult males that grew up in this state owns a boat and/or loves to hunt.

FWIW, I used google earth to measure the length of the local Walmart lot. It's typically the deepest lot off the main highway of any store I know of with the exception of store lots that contain restaurants and stores connected to malls/shopping centers. The length from the front door all the way to the street, including crosswalks, was 138 yards. I highly doubt even a round trip to/from your car, parked in your average grocery store, would come close to 200 yards.

Nah. Just someone with no need for a truck or a manual transmission.

I am one of them. I got buy with a Tahoe easily. I had a boat and hunted regularly. Outside of towing my boat, I could have even gotten by without the SUV. Does it make it a little easier...no doubt about it. I'm just saying there are sooo many who think they have to have one. That they are just too outdoorsy to not have a truck.
I'm just saying it can all be done without one (outside of a lot of towing). I'm not against trucks. But I still remember my cousin ragging me when I got rid of my truck..."what kind of man doesn't have a truck". Again, my balls are still there. And I still do any and every hobby I want. I got rid of the truck during a period where I wasn't hunting and fishing as much, then after married for a bit, got back into it. So I did a lot of my previous hobbies, just realized I didn't "need" the truck to do them. Would have been fine with one, but got by without it just as well. As I'd expect most would be able to.
I've built my own fence, changed out all my flooring, driven to deer stands, fished all of SE LA in my boat and yak, traveled with my bike and gear to triathlons all over the place..... all while not having the bed of a truck.
Meanwhile, the other 50% of people who don't own boats or hunt and fish have a truck so that they can pick up mulch once a year.

No question the douche with the jacked up 3500 that goes catfishing in a local pond twice a year is somewhat of a norm in our state and that's sad. I love the outdoors and some of the fishing holes I go too require 4WD. My brother on the other hand has a truck for the sake of having a truck. He does help my dad around his house every now and then that requires use of his truck but he certainly doesn't need one.

Since when does not "needing" a truck mean you shouldn't have one? Most people in this thread could get by with much smaller houses no?

or just clothes from wal mart. No one needs clothes that cost anything more than their family friendly walmart. Hell, no one needs to eat steak or lets go without electricity. People survived without it before. No need for air conditioner.

We could almost all get by with tiny houses and priuses (or is it prii?) but the good thing is that we don't have to.
I "need" my mid-size SUV every now and then, and I'm sure glad that I have it when those situations arise.

This is my thought. Perfectly fine with people having what they want. I hope to have a Land Cruiser one day, but certainly don't need it.
But, the annoying part is the amount of people who act like they need it. I have a friend who is on his second F250. The largest thing he's ever had to tow is an 18' aluminum hull boat. But when he got a new truck, there wasn't a single person who knew him that thought he'd get anything other than a big diesel. Why????? In his mind, he needs that.

We're on the same page. If you want one just because, just admit it. Nothing wrong with that.
