I find the display of pronouns to be helpful when someone’s parents decided to frick them with a gender neutral name, or god forbid used a girl name for a boy and vice versa.

A friends of my daugher's (no pics) has 4 kids. Their names are Hunter, Mason, Elliot, and Lowen. Guess their sexes!

They is plural. It makes sense that a bipolar (mentally ill) would respond that way.

To be fair, and I'll preface this with saying I think the pronoun/trans/etc shite is complete horseshite..

.. people have been using "they" when they don't know the gender/name of the person for ages. Like if I email you and I say, "I have a client who needs to know where they report to for XYZ", and you reply, "They need to be at X place for Y time."

I would typically write this instead;

I have a client who needs to know where to report for XYZ"

My reply would be, "tell the client to be at X place for Y time."

Yep, I just assume schizophrenia and multiple personalities.

Demons in the bible always referred to themselves in the plural. They're just telling you what they are.

Those numb-nuts should have made up a new word for this. The word "they" was already being used.

Whether this usage is proper has been debated for hundreds of years.

The prescriptivists can debate it for as long as they would like, but 99% of the population would look at you like you were insane if you looked at them in that situation and asked “what did he or she say?” “They” won that debate de facto, if not de jure, a long time ago

If you call yourself "they" i assume you have more than one personality.

I don’t, but anyone who says that “they” doesn’t have a common usage as a gender ambiguous singular pronoun that long predates this particular culture war is simply being dishonest.

I mean, okay? You're saying your reply would be to repeat the name (or in this case "the client") versus using a pronoun. That's cool and all, but that doesn't change that many people opt to shorten to pronouns in conversation.

Like I said, we've all been using "they" when we have no idea of the other person's gender for years. It becomes stupid when we are using it for people whose gender we know.

It is completely retarded in today's context and I don't agree with any of it.

Sure, its never been listed as a personal pronoun expressing indivuality.

I'm not calling you or any other of the gender insanity mob "they" no matter how many times you threaten me

"He or she" is an awkward as shite construction and is also poor way to handle such a situation. Strunk & White suggests to just pick one or avoid the situation by using a different descriptor, for example.

I'm not mandating how anyone speaks. For me, I am going to choose to speak in the least ambiguous manner so I can best express myself to my audience. That's the purpose of language. It's ambiguous to refer to individuals using plural pronouns. It's even more confusing when the same subject's action is described by a singular verb in one sentence and a plural verb in another just because the proper name was used in the former and a pronoun in the latter. The pronoun is no longer serving its function of replacing a proper name in those cases. It's a regression in communication ability, so I won't do it.
