With the 4.3 million cubic yards of concrete used to build the Hoover Dam, its power plant and auxiliary features, a concrete road (16 feet-wide, 8-inches thick) could be paved from San Francisco to New York City!

A rope stretched around the equator would require so little added to it in order for it to be elevated to one foot above the surface of the entire earth.

"so little added"? Well??? Do we have to calculate this ourselves??
Ok, circumference = 2 (Pi) r = 2 x 3.14159 x r = 6.28318 x r
Earth's diameter at Equator = 7,926 miles
so r = 3,963 miles = 20,924,640 feet
so rope on equator = 131,473,280 feet long
A rope a foot above equator = r = 20,924,641 feet
so that rope = 131,473,286 feet long
I don't know if my math is on.. kindof buzzed now ;)
I'm sure no wrong answer lasts long on the O-T.
But six feet? Pretty small amount... sparkinator checks out.

Mauna Kea is indeed the tallest from base to peak. Nearly a mile taller than Everest in fact.
The farthest point on the Earth's surface from its center is the peak of Chimborazo in the Andes, due to (you nailed it) the slight bulge in the earth around the equator.

Oh I understand the math. Simple algebra is simple.
It’s that the same 6+ feet raises the rope 1 foot above the surface of any sphere that’s hard to grasp. It’s the same for the moon, the earth, Jupiter, the sun, etc. (Acknowledging the physical impossibilities of each scenario).
