I’m sort of the belief people are born to be prone to narcissism or not. But social media prods those prone to it, for sure.
More importantly, it makes people think they need to live a life like the fake life they see posted by their friends and family, Etc. Or that everyone is entitled to live like the Kardashians without earning it.

I've been saying for years that human beings have not evolved enough to deal with this type of stuff. Studies have shown that human beings are horrible with statistics when it comes to bad events, so of course everyone wants to extrapolate 10,000 angry lesbians on Twitter to a larger population. The thing is, these nutters found each other, sometimes 10,000 angry lesbians are just that, 10,000 angry lesbians.

It's way beyond the surface level stuff, too.
We have barely evolved to create functional societies. That's still a major work in progress that results in huge crises and wars.
With how refined data collection/analysis has gotten, we're moving past a state of humanity, even. We are all going to be fully manipulated beings in short order, b/c we have no real defense to the large scale micro-manipulation going on behind the scenes.
I postulated on here a few years ago that technological data analysis will basically make social sciences in academia useless. These companies will have their analysis and samples refined enough to make traditional study of humans obsolete.
