Meanwhile, they've had about a thousand tornado warnings in southern Georgia into Florida today. One confirmed in Valdosta.

That’s a desolate part of the country. How do you like living here in that area?

I guess that’s one downside.

Those are Donner party numbers up in the sierra.

Mammoth Mountain and Donner pass both set season records last season ( since accurate recording) and I believe Mammoths was a little higher; around 700 inches.

Let's hope this will affect Lake Mead in Nevada and fill it up with a lot more water. Las Vegas is going to rely on more water with all the folks that keep moving there.

This should be good in the long term for California's agriculture industry.

The amount of rain isn't annoying me so much (I'm not worried about flooding around here), it's the damn winds. A couple of years ago a big branch from the next-door neighbor's tree fell on our roof (that tree is now gone), and last year the other next-door neighbor's dead backyard tree fell on the power line during the big storm, knocking out power for a day (and somehow totally frying the previously mentioned next-door neighbor's circuit breaker box or something). My cable and networking equipment almost got fried as well (the power line actually fell on the cable line below it) but the shunting device in the external box successfully diverted the current to ground while sacrificing itself.

My immediate surroundings are free of hazards now, but I'm still concerned about power going out and PG&E taking forever to get it fixed.

Imagine if they had the foresight to have a bunch of lakes they could fill and use during the inevitable drought later this year.

There has been some recent interesting news on this front. Water in California is a boom-or-bust kind of thing, and multi-year droughts are expected to become more frequent going forward. So we definitely need more reservoirs.
