Louisiana is always broke because we have among the highest rates of poverty per capita, highest rates of crime, highest rates of mental illness, highest rates of incarceration, highest rates of drug use, lowest rates of educational attainment per capita, the highest rates of government employees per capita, most 4 year public universities per capita, fewest 2 year public community colleges per capita, massive infrastructure challenges for such a small state due to our geology, extremely generous corporate tax structure, extremely generous property tax structure for non-corporations, a centralized state government that does a lot of the work that county governments handle in other states, a metric f&%k ton of corruption, a raw-material / natural resource-based economy that is based on commodity prices which are mostly in the toilet right now (Timber being the exception), and we have some of the most generous state entitlement programs in the United States for everything from higher education, to welfare, to food.

We aren't broke.

The pols want you to think we are, but reality is they just don't have enough revenue to spend on things they want and on what we need.

They play up the fact that we have needs that can't be addressed while they spend money on other things that they want for their friends and themselves.

In addition, money that should have been spent improving roads and education years ago was siphoned off and disappeared.

The constant stealing and mismanagement over the years has added up and is apparent now.

It is a new world with many new technologies and manufacturing needs. Big business would rather take an arse whipping than locate in LA. They would have to employ the product of what theft has turned the school system into.

Good question considering LA gets more federal government money per person than 43 of the states in the U.S.

Rest of the country is tired of subsidizing southern states in general. Get your shite together.

This state needs a Constitutional Amendment to remove the BS that has been written in that we cannot cut.

Honor Code cant find a single thing to cut which is BS on many fronts.

Unholy Trinity: Catholics

WTF? You can't blame the Catholics for our draconian drug and alcohol laws and insanely corrupt casino licensing regime. You can thank the Protestant Jerry-Falwell types up in North Louisiana for those disasters.

Simply put, Medicaid is overwhelming the budget in Louisiana. You are not alone.

Think about that the next time you vote.

We would love to, but the rest of the states require us to take care of our lazy, entitled masses, and our lazy, entitled masses make up a much larger percentage of our population than they do in most of the rest of the country. We'd love to stop paying for them, but the feds require we do so.

We spend more money than 25 states regardless of population.

Per capita we outspent 27 states

Only 19 states get more federal funding in total.

Only 26 states have less funds than Louisiana in total.

We are at the bottom of everything we spend money on.

This isnt a revenue problem.

This simply isn't true. Less than a third of the state legislature graduated from law school.

At least 10% of the state legislators did not earn bachelors degrees, though.
