Now how many people die of cancer, heart disease and the flu daily?
I think this counter “argument” might kill me faster than the corona virus

Wait you consider that deadly??? Yikes

How does that not sound ridiculous to you upon re-reading it?

Why don't we just let it run it's course? Old and weak people will die, young and healthy will survive. Win/Win situation, nothing to be scared of?

Go ahead and move to China. Might as well be safe.

Those cases will increase as we test. The death % will decrease significantly.

U.S. - 21 deaths, 537 cases - 3.9% death rate.
So .00016422 percent of the population is your sample size for America... neat.

Italy - 366 deaths, 7300 cases - 5% death rate.
Oh shite, .01216% of Italy's population.

Worse than China so far.
Are people really this dumb? Do people not realize that these percentages mean absolutely nothing at this point?
The numerator (deaths) is probably somewhat accurate and meaningful, but the denominator is simply the number of people that have tested positive for the virus. This number cannot be used to produce a death rate that is in any way meaningful. If you use it for any purpose, it must be treated as the bare minimum number of people who have been infected.
It is not possible to test everyone, so it is not possible to know or even estimate the true number of infected, hence we can't know or estimate the true death rate.
What we do know is that in most countries only those who are suspected of being infected are tested, and even all of those are not being tested. So these death rate percentages that everyone keeps spouting off are extreme exaggerations of the true lethality of this virus.
We do know that some people who have tested positive have shrugged it off without even realizing they were infected. It would not surprise me at all if, once we have months or years to study this and understand the impact, that this virus turns out to be less lethal than the flu.

We are in close communication with medical professionals, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), government agencies, and internal teams to stay on top of this evolving situation. According to the most recent information from the CDC, for most people, the immediate risk of being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be low.
Hmmmmm

Are you dumb enough to think that people who deal with numbers all day haven’t accounted for this? It’s included in every single model. And as a counter argument you aren’t including every patient who recently tested positive but hasn’t died yet.

There is absolutely no way to verify Chinas death totals, since their communists government covers them up.

Look, I am not saying people shouldnt wash their hands and old people shouldnt be careful
BUT THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN TRUE. This corona-virus reminds me of this meme that uses to happen in the old internet days
Saying the hype and reaction to this is overblown and ridiculous is 100% correct

I know immediately who doesn’t understand the basics of this disease when they start talking about the mortality rates.
If you just flipped a switch and killed all the inevitable coronavirus victims overnight that would really suck but it would avoid the real problem of this disease which is the large number of critically ill. It has the POTENTIAL to overwhelm the system. That means people don’t get basic standard of care. That means people with other health problems (yes people still get sick for other reasons) don’t get the care they need. That can be mitigated with a well informed population that is willing to take the steps necessary to stop it.
If we want to be like South Korea people better act like South Koreans. They take this shite seriously and that’s why they have been so organized.

537 cases

3.9% death rate
This is in the same family as MERS and SARS, unless China has weaponized the virus (which I won't rule out) this is not a pandemic that is going to wipe us out.
By the end of May this thing will be out of the news and we will be on to the next thing that will end civilization.
NOTE: I am not saying IF you are ill ignore it and go visit grandma in the nursing home. I am saying if you are generally healthy practice good hygiene and go about your business.
