The libertarian in me agrees with this. The issue is, this is not the world in which we currently live.
While I personally don't care if a man that thinks he's a woman dresses as one and lives his life that way, we've now gone WELL beyond this. And these issues do effect everyone in one form or another now. Whether it's the bathroom issue, or a locker room, or now having to accept that a man that thinks he's a woman IS a woman and can compete against women in sports...even combat sports, etc. You've got Canada, the UK and virtually all of social media policing speech making sure you don't misgender or heaven forbid "dead name" a trans person.
We've gone so far beyond the old adage "What two consenting adults to in the privacy of their bedroom ought be no one's business but their own." If that's where we were still, I'd 100% be on board with you. In fact, despite the fact that we've witnessed a very obvious slippery slope from accepting that very thing to where we are now, I STILL think it would have been possible to be accepting and tolerant AND STILL know when as a society to draw a few obvious lines in the sand. The problem is this topic became taboo and political, so no one with even a little sense was able to stand up and say, "Nah...this is a line too far."

This isn’t just about a tranny waiter. Which restroom is the tranny using? Is my daughter going to run into a man, dressed as a women, in the women’s restroom? So, yes, that’s a big deal as a parent, to make the choice not to expose my kids to those dangers.

They did not, and my point had nothing at all to do with the OP's incident.
But would you address the point made? If Trans person is openly expecting you treat them as if they are the sex they think they are rather than the sex they were obviously born into, how is that different than being asked to pretend you also see and hear the various hallucinations seen and heard by a schizophrenic? In both cases, you are not experiencing the same thing the individual is, and would have to pretend to go along with either situation.
Keep in mind, my first post in this thread was a direct post to an ACTUAL Trans person, not those knighting for them. In his post he used the term "biological glitch" and I told him I agreed with him and asked why the distinction with other things we recognize as biological glitches.

I’m interested to ask what you actual concern with a trans person in the bathroom with your daughter is.
I assume You are concerned about them being raped or molested? Which would still require you daughter to be in there alone with this person and for no one to walk in.
Or are you concerned they will try and watch your daughter pee? This is still illegal.
I get worrying about your kids, but do these laws actually prevent rape or peeping Toms? Or do they put up a marginal barrier

I think the bathroom concern is overblown from an actual "safety" perspective.
I think it's completely normal from a simplistic, emotional "I don't want adult males in the bathroom with my teen daughter" perspective, for the same reason I wouldn't want the most non-rapey men in the bathroom with her.
If we want to have broader conversations about why it is/isn't problematic for the latter to occur, fine, but we generally don't have those conversations. So it's curious that this emotional response is completely uncontroversial, yet gets called into question and potentially labeled as hurtful/problematic when the men are transgender.

When it comes down to it the reality is we are dealing with our own discomfort with the situation. The OP did the right thing if he was not comfortable. He did not make a scene and embarrass anyone. Would I have walked out? NO but I have two transexual family members so I am used to it. Did it make me uncomfortable when my niece became my nephew? Yes it did. I never showed for his sake and have since come to terms knowing it's not about me. I have two gay children and have learned a lot about people and they way they perceive themselves. There's no shame in saying your uncomfortable with these things. In time you learn to understand others situations. It's not about liberal or conservative there a plenty of trans people who are either. I would suggest to not pass your discomfort on to your childern. We raised our four to be better people than we are.

I mean, if trannies want to use womens rooms then people shouldn't be upset if men escort their kids to the womens restroom as well.
Just take the designation off the door and let people go wherever they want.
