apparently employees will open nearly anything for you to sample before you buy it. more stores should do this
but how do they not have a shite ton of waste?

Because most people aren't assholes that would want to go in and open up everything to try it.
The only thing that I could see that being useful for is fruit. I wholly agree with trying fruit before buying. A huge amount of it goes to waste anyways.

They exist though. Lots of adults act like children being picky eaters.

Because it’s Trader Joe’s and not Walmart.

They've let me taste something, and I've bought it every time.

They don’t have waste because of opening a jar of cookie butter for you to take a spoonful out of. It goes into the budget, as you know TJs is not struggling.
Most of the time after you try it, it ends up in the breakroom for the staff to eat or donated.
All grocery stores have some sort of budget for “spoilage and spills” kind of thing

Just wait until all the culcha starting figuring this out... Trader Joe’s will be the new Cortana Mall

Free samples have existed for decades at grocery stores

Rednecks is the more politically correct term. You should know that.

They don’t take EBT so the cultcha doesn’t shop there.

I sample their tequilas before heading to the party

Sprouts does this too.
Trader Joe's blows though.

Isn't Traders all private brand?
You can return any WMT private brand item after trying; they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, there's no risk other than the inconvenience to return.
