Anything is possible if they tax the shite out of our society. Will people show up to the polls this time? And do we trust broome with more of our money?...but I digress

I assume our policy is to simply tax upon tax, instead of better manage our money. Even the most profitable business will run dry upon greed and mismanagement.

Shocker, Democrats pass one tax and look for another before the ink is dry on the first.

Not really. It was a private citizen spitballing his idea how a new Miss River bridge might possibly get built if several parishes cooperate to get it done.

We'll just make the plants and refineries pay for it!

I laugh every time I see someone share that video.

That is actually how a lot of roads and drainage close to plants gets completed. The plant themselves do the work, which is part of the reason for ITEPs.

Rick Ward sponsored the regional transportation body.

He’s a republican tired of sitting in traffic.

That's what happens when government realizes how little people care about more taxes, or how easy it is to get them passed.

To begin, I am not an R or a D. I also believe that BR desperately needs another bridge (although I no longer live there). I also know for a fact that there is wayyyy more than enough waste to build that bridge tenfold. And that was before the new road tax.

To be honest, I think this entire story is more of a way for Jim to get his name out even more in the public with basically a reformation of his former company. I liked what he said a few days before about making it a toll. With a toll, the people that actually use it and benefit from it pay for it. States like Florida use tolls and it seems to work for them.

You know, if they created a tax to give BRPD a raise, the city would attract more officers, meaning wrecks would be cleared faster and the current bridge wouldn't be an issue.

I will vote for it. Twice, if I can get away with it. We need a bridge.

Take all the money from COA and slash BREC's budget and tell BRPD to go wild.

Senator Ward is someone I watched excuse himself from voting on legislation that would have wiped out a segment of small business owners in Louisiana. He actually allowed his Vice Chair-a liberal Democrat Trial Lawyer in the pocket of the special interest group he sponsored the legislation for-to run his committee that day, then step down from the Chair and push his own Bill, checking out for the vote to pass it to the Full Senate.

This was all legal mind you. But it was transparent and incredibly disappointing. He does not represent me and he did not seem to represent his principles in that moment. He abdicated his duty to the citizens who elected him in favor of what appeared to be a professional courtesy and I find that hard to accept. Especially when small business owner’s livelihoods hung in the balance of said courtesy.

I understand and accept that politics is often an art of compromise. The legislation was ultimately killed thanks to intense effort. But I find supporting that type of person’s agenda-regardless of what it entails-difficult after that experience. Principles matter to me. I’d have to have a convo with him before backing him.

Not that I’m bitter.
