I Cleared the bleachers in two different games, sent all the parents to the parking lot.
Back before Katrina, I was umpiring a tournament that was being held at Woodlake in Kenner. They put up black screen along the backstop from down the first base line, by first base, behind first base dugout, around the home plate area, by third base, and down the line.
Basically, the only place you could watch the game from was behind the home run fence, where the bleachers were located.
It was the quietest games I've ever called. Some parents were yelling but we didn't hear much!

Was the ref's name, Walter? This is a league game, there are rules.

shite is absolutely out of control, and every league is struggling to get officials because of it.
Honestly, it's not really a new thing. I was reffing soccer games from the mid-90's through around 2003, and had several interactions with parents that could have easily turned violent. We actually had to take a class on how to deal with unruly parents and coaches. That may be standard now, but when I was getting certified to ref, it was only about a 20 minute discussion in one class period.

Crazy little league parents should have to wear shock collars at the games. Every time they bitch the ump zaps them.

How much does an umpire make calling a game at this level anyway?
quote:
Game fees are $30/game for a 60 minute game (coach pitch) and $45/game for a 90 minute game (kid pitch). Number of games per weekend will be based on each umpire’s progression, but most veteran umpires average between 8 – 12 games per weekend.

Braydyn was safe dammit.
He had scouts watching him and this could be a huge setback to his career.

I can’t imagine how embarrassing it’s got to be for a kid to have parents like that.

Idiot parents are not new, but now the idiot parents are also videoing and blasting on social media during/after the game, in addition to losing their crap at the game.
The biggest issue is that so few people want to officiate now, that you end up with a lot of very young officials who don't know the rules, are lazy, and don't really care to learn, because they know the associations are so desperate they will keep assigning them games.
It's a nasty spiral right now.

he must have had the gun either on his person or in his bag while on the fields (or in his bag stashed away in a stand or something) and that also is a really, really bad idea.
I agree with you if in the bag, but why on his person?

Parent/Coach followed umpire to his car where he had to show his gun to get het parent/coach to back off.
And this is why there is a shortage of refs/umps/officials, and an even greater shortage of good ones.

You could tell me the umpire had a gun on the field and was firing warning shots and I’d take his side.

Are you asking why it is a bad idea to have a gun on you while refereeing a game?
I would never let one of my refs call a game with a gun on him.

ump was probably in the right, but i was taught don't show your gun until you have to use it. If you pull it, you should be ready to kill with it. Otherwise just state you are armed and that the other person needs to back off.
Terrible, terrible move.

Billjaminaxon almost had a no hitter until that stupid ump couldn't see that his curve ball caught the edge perfectly. I had to tell that dumbass what was up and then he go all scared and pulled out the heater. I made sure to report him to the proper authorities and have requested the rec league buy me a bullet proof vest for future integrations with umps who don't know shite. Thanks for the support baws.
