the company that manufactures Oxycontin, Purdue, deliberately and falsely advertised it as non-addictive for years. Literally hundreds of thousand of people were being prescribed that poison by doctors and taking their advice under the impression it wasn't addictive. They more than anyone are responsible for this.

Hmmmm, I work in healthcare as well. I get no kickback for prescribing meds. In fact I try to use generics when possible. Pain meds have their place guys. Good luck getting them when you need them cause we are all gun shy prescribing them now.

Now that Amazon is in the drug game, this will get interesting over the next 3 years.

For fricks sake, when are the legalized drug dealers going to be held accountable for all of the people they have killed or have strung out?????
The problem is when doctors give out these
prescriptions for months if not years at a time and then cut it off, usually because of government involvement. Addiction with different substances effect everyone differently. If it were my family member I would rather them take and have access to legal pain pills vs turning to the street because we all know how that usually turns out.

Blame whoever came up with the “pain is the 5th vital sign” and the hospital administration that values patient satisfaction over proper medical management.
I’m talking about legit doctors who prescribed pain meds and not the pill mill types.
Mark my words, testosterone replacement is the new “pill mill” in medicine. Lawsuits blaming them for strokes and MI’s are on the horizon.

I have experience with pain pills because of a major leg injury. I had 7 surgeries in 13 days and was in excruciating pain during a 3 month hospital stay. The doctor made orders for delodum pain shots every 3 hours.
I had no idea this was straight morphine, which is very similar to heroin. When it was time to discharge they weaned me off for 2 days and sent me on my with prescriptions for high dosage of hydrocodone and ativan(anxiety). There is no doubt in my mind I was addicted to the delodum , which immediately turned into an addiction to the new prescriptions.
After about 5 months I made a personal choice to quit both cold turkey because I didn't want to spend the rest of my life dependent on pills. It was the hardest thing I ever did, but after a couple weeks I started to feel normal.
If I am ever in a similar situation in the hospital I will have to think long and hard before taking delodum. I don't blame the doctor or Big Pharm since my circumstances were all on me because I am the one who buzzed the nurses every 3 hours for pain shots and let myself become addicted. People need to look in the mirror and stop blaming others instead of taking personal responsibility.

You got that backwards.I've never had them push them on me.
I've had a Total Knee Replacement.I fought for all the pain meds that I got.
I don't take any now.It had gotten to be too much of a hassle to be in Pain Management.
I live in Alabama, which is supposedly #1 in Opioid Prescriptions.

Y'all should read Drug Dealer MD by Dr Anna Lembke she's an addiction medicine doctor at Stanford that has a lot of good information about this.

It’s a breath of fresh air that your schtick is about up. You must be a sad little man IRL. You do deserve credit for your efforts though.

It's mind boggling that any consumer would believe it was not addictive regardless of advertising.

For years they taught this bullshite that “pain was the 5th vital sign”
If you didnt treat pain you were cruel. There are some shitty pill pushing doctors but many prescribed opiates because of PC stuff pushed at high levels
Also, most narcotics are generic and not huge money makers. Percocet is cheap as hell or at least it used to be until regulation

Jesus. It's Dilaudid. It's stronger than morphine it is not morphine. Generic name is Oxymorphone. And heroin and Dilaudid and most other opioid s are derived from morphine, which is derived from opium from poppy plants. And you can keep stepping down drugs that differ in strength, but you will still have the withdrawal symptoms once you are totally off opiates.

I have a legit question for anyone in the know with all this: with all of this attention on stopping opioids is there anything being done with pain clinics and methadone clinics? As far as I know in MS, people are being sent to pain clinics by their family docs and trying to punt the responsibility to them, and I don’t blame em. It just seems to me that the issue is being moved to someone who is likely more than willing to continue prescribing for. And are methadone clinics only able to work with people trying to get off opiates, or can they put someone with no abuse history on a regiment for pain?
