Great story. I’m happy you fought through rock bottom rather than take the easy route like many others in that situation do. Regardless of your past mistakes that shows a man of strength and character. Keep up the good work

Sounds like a solid plan, I don't think people would mind.

Would you prefer he continue his ways?

Congrats on transforming your life and sorry for the loss of your wife. You have made a incredible journey. But one thing you have left to fix. You have came so far but we have to fix this

exactly. what's the gotcha here exactly? that the money saved his life and more pain for his children? gee i would hate to know the money was put to that use and not just the funeral.

You should abandon all things Alabama and be an LSU fan. Grats on the recovery. Everyday is a new day and the possibilities/opportunities are endless.

Good to hear baw, and good on you for turning your life around. It seems that many fail to do that. I'm also glad you found people to help you and a new home.

First, CD, I'm speaking to you: I'm glad you're able to make a turn during the most difficult of times for anyone. A spouse that passes away is difficult, even for the most level headed of people. Commend yourself for making it through that.

Second, and now I'm speaking to everyone.
Please stay away from drugs. Never start. And if you have, stop now. There is no positive end.
I would say stay away from alcohol, too, but that may go too far for some of you and would get angered at me fir saying that.
Drugs are never the answer, even for the short while. Look for other avenues to get a "high": take part in running a 5k, go volunteer at a favorite charity, get involved in reading books. Anything to stimulate the mind, anything to feel therapeutic. Endorphins are the body's natural drug that really can help bring up a person's well being.
Being sedentary and taking prescription or nonprescription drugs is Not what the body needs

Congratulations - its great to hear you turned it around.

Don't get complacent but you have the tools to deal with what life throws at you without escaping into addiction.

Funeral was also paid for - additional money was for his children.

I think getting their father back and sober is money well spent in that regard. As I recall, someone else had control of the money and they made a great choice for the family.

Luckily he has no need to answer to you or anyone else other than his family.

while noble, is it wise for you to befriend any addicts? I’d steer a wide path around that association me. What do you think a sponsor is?
that sponsor/12 steps program stuff didn’t work for me.

I had to just completely cut ties with everyone that even dabbles anywhere in the gray area or associated or even aware.

I honestly don’t even think anyone in my social life that has ever even thought about dabbling in drugs.

Works for me. Although I’m completely open on my past and not ashamed of it. Out of site out of mind works best.

This board is the only thing in my life that likes to remind me everyday of my past tho

It actually works the other way around. Helping other addicts helps me stay sober. I will never be able to hide from drugs. They are everywhere.

Did you give? If not frick off.

I did, certainly don't have an issue with it being used for rehab after burial expenses.

If he's have used it all to build a Copeland'esque tomb, you'd be bitching about that.
