Apparently I need to see a specialist about surgery to correct this so it does not become a problem later.
A few years ago I was referred to a specialist for buried optic nerve druzen.
Told my eye Dr. I'd like to change that order to the strudel instead.

Agreed, I plan on getting a second opinion over the holidays and then going from there

Did he set you up with a retinal specialist? He's the one that should give you your second opinion. If you go to another OD or a non-specialist MD they very likely will tell you the same thing and let the specialist decide on treating vs monitoring

You need to see the retina vitreous doctor, if they are getting you in next week that tells you how serious this is. These doctors easily see 30 to 50 patients a day.

Are you in BR? What doc did he send you to? Honestly the likelihood of lattice and a small retinal hole causing a detachment is pretty small, especially within the next week. It's a good idea to go ahead and treat to prevent any future problems but not really an urgent problem

Did you see an MD or an OD? There are a lot of ophthalmologists who don't feel like round holes need to be treated. Personally, I would treat it (laser retinopexy, i.e., using a laser to encircle the hole to prevent fluid from entering the hole and going underneath the retina causing a retinal detachment). The treatment is very benign with almost no adverse effects.
This condition is something that should be monitored, and you should see an ophthalmologist ASAP in the future if you ever develop flashes, floaters, or shadows in your vision; but it isn't really something serious. Under no circumstances will this require needles in your eye, or injecting gas or air in your eye.
