I went on one and enjoyed it, but cruises aren’t for everyone.

Alaska is awesome. If you can’t enjoy an Alaska trip in May you’re probably a huge dork

What is there to do?
Always wanted to go but seems kind of boring

What was the average age? Weight?

Why move with urgency? Unless the ship is sinking, you are on vacation not a Kmart blue light special.

Alaska is majestic. Views are incredible. If I'd visited there in my 20s I'd never came back. Food is great. We took a float plane out to a glacier and ate salmon at a camphouse close by. Saw mountain goats, bears, moose, and deer.

I hiked into McCarthy Alaska after spending a week backpacking in Wrangell-St Elias National Park. There were some cruisers who had helicoptered in for a day excursion sitting on the porch of the McCarthy Lodge complaining about being cold. They were in one of the last truly wild places on earth and they were oblivious to what was around them.
I used to try to convince people to plan their own trip instead of the plastic packaged cruise experience but I realized it was a waste of time. The plastic packaged version is what most people want. Now I just say "that's nice."

Same here. I really don't get the appeal of a cruise other than just convenience. I don't like going with the masses and doing the tourist stuff. I am an adventurer and like getting to experience the location I am visiting. I usually stay in a Airbnb and plan all my own stuff and trying to find where the locals go and do. I have been on a couple cruises but that was just to be with family and friends. I guess different strokes for different folks applies here.

That’s because it’s a Miami cruise. If you have to fly far away to get onto the boat, it tends to be old rich people.
The rich people I know are mainly like 60+ and doing like Alaskan cruises, European river cruises, and such.

They’re good for old people who would have trouble navigating big cities. You get on the boat and you book some dedicated tours for the days off the boat.
I’ll say this, I’m tempted to start signing up for Tours for various trips because I just don’t really have time with my work to spend much time planning.

so easy now to find deals and plan things with trip advisor and other apps now. From finding top notch local restaurants, zip lines, hiking, etc can all be done online in minutes. I also like reading some of the Airbnb comments sections too. Pretty good info on finding what's some good things to do around the property.

Alaska Cruises are overrun by the elderly.
They usually have a few die of natural causes on them.

The frick are you on a cruise for with that kind of attitude?
Right. You're on a cruise to relax, sit on your arse, eat, drink and enjoy the view.

I worked in Alaska a few years back, and flying back and forth up there in the summer the average age on the flights seemed like it had to be 80+. A quarter of the plane boarded via wheelchair. I was always thinking no way all of these old people survive the trip, they gotta at least lose a couple each sailing.
