That's probably how the compensation packages were drawn up when they got the position. So idiotic by the companies. I understand if you want to hire a quality person you compensate them, but I don't see how one doesn't think their company should slightly roll back these deals.

When did they build a giant fence around Detroit and prevent them from leaving on top of enforcing them to work in the automotive industry?! Somebody has to do something about this!

They were offered 20% and said no. They also just finished getting a graduated pay raise from the 2019 strike. This is 100% a response to the UPS pay increase and the Union wanting a similar cut to what the UPS reps are getting. Line workers make 40-70k on their current contract. Not amazing, but for the areas these plants are, that's pretty good pay. They want a 40% pay raise, and OT pay to begin after 32 hours. They want the pay scale to be 57-102k So actual increase for payroll would be ~70% or 40%, but a 20% reduction in manned hours. This isn't "pEoPLe HaTE woRKeRs" It's absolutely asinine and could absolutely lead to even more manufacturing for US companies to go overseas.

It absolutely could lead to more jobs going overseas. The demands seem insane. I am not a UAW member so I would not know but on the surface of things They seem insane. Looks like management has its work cut out for them. No one is holding a gun to their head, they can counter, they can tell them to pound sand, they can move overseas, they can close their doors all the way around. It is a matter of record what the Big 3 make...how their workers live is anecdotal at best.

I don’t think conservatives are blaming workers. They’re blaming Biden’s monetary policies of spending too much money. However, this just adds to the fire. If you don’t think UPS workers making 150k per years increases inflation as well as dumb shite like the green new deal, then I don’t know what to tell you.

So the average conservative has a better idea of what is best for UPS than UPS management. Interesting concept....

More and more “American” cars are being made in Mexico. This will just increase the rate of vehicles being made there.

So the management at the Big 3 are guilty of not serving shareholder's best interest. If they can move production to Mexico to avoid higher labor costs why haven't they moved to Mexico to avoid current labor costs? They are, if this is true, guilty of exceedingly poor judgement at best if not guilty of failing their fiduciary duty to protecting the interests of shareholders. Ask a shareholder where their interests lie and corporate profitability will no doubt be at the top of most lists....

The elimination of cars for SUVs and CUVs has raised the cost of existing UVs.
Costs should increase by a few hundred as the manufacturers gear up for EV production.

You’re saying a large increase in cost to one of the largest shipping providers in the US won’t result in added inflation? Terrible grasp of basic economics.

Have any of the OT business majors explained why the GM and Ford executives make 5 or 6 times as much as their counterparts at Toyota and VW (both of which are way bigger than Ford and GM)? Toyota’s CEO makes like 5mil in comp. GM’s makes 30.

Executives were paid a straight salary plus bonus for many years. The unions and media complained about their salaries so they changed the compensation weight to stock options and more incremental pay (bonus). The CEO of Toyota is paid on what was the traditional compensation model.

Here’s a sample of the new structure at GM. $2,100,000 was received as a salary, $6,258,000 was received as a bonus, $4,875,010 was received in stock options, $14,625,000 was awarded as stock and $1,121,560 came from other types of compensation.

Maybe the Unions should argue for the same model. 75k a year and shift the rest to company performance for stock and bonuses?

Labor costs account for approximately 5% of the cost of the car

So if labor costs increase by 20%, and if 100% of the labor cost increases are passed along to the consumer, the price of vehicles would increase by about 1%

Prices already went up without anybody getting a raise.

link to no one getting raises at these companies over the past few years...

Price increase also coincides with the increase in the cost of gas and push for more evs.

Also these companies were taking huge losses in 2020.

What? if it cost me $10 to make a pizza and i sell it for $5, im not staying in business long no matter how much demand there was for my pizza.

Lack of supply and record low interest rates didn’t help either.

These demands from UAW will likely kill off one of the American automakers

I hope it does. Not killoff permanently. But shut a plant or two down and have it re-open as a non-union facility.

That's the only way to teach unions they can't continue this entitled bullying.

And what about state and fed govt employees, teachers, custodians, auto shop techs, grocery store clerks, first responders, private sector non union manufacturing jobs, or anyone not in a union? We'd all like raises to keep up with inflation. Instead we're seeing COL increases frozen, bonuses cut, and scraping by on existing salaries for 2 years now while prices soar.

What if we walk off the job demanding a 40% raise?
Our boss goes "bye bye"

And how many of you realize that in some states striking workers can collect unemployment on TOP of strike pay from their unions? That's entitlement and greed at its finest.
