It’s still there. I don’t think it has expanded much recently. Still some legal stuff being hashed out in court.

I’m not entirely sure. Gas line or something ruptured and knocked down the support columns to the dome.

I thought it was punctured with a drill bit? Maybe not.
I remember eating boiled crawfish there while watching Bob Scarce "The Old Beachcomber" film his outdoor show for WAFB.
I also remember buying ( or my dad buying) live crawfish at Camp Bayou Corne for $.10 a pound. Those days are gone.

I’m not sure if they have figured out exactly what caused the collapse. I do remember them exacuating the area due to residents smelling crude though

My friend's parents owned a home that was affected. They sold the property back to one of the holding companies and received fair compensation for the land but they were devastated they had to move.

A big settlement happened last year that let some of the companies off the hook. The major player was suing anybody in the area to spread blame.
As to the cause. The brine company had multiple brine wells drilled into the dome. The OXY 3 cavern that failed was very close to the edge of the dome. Instead of shutting it in when it got close per cavern surveys they kept circulating it getting closer and closer to the edge of the dome as the cavern expanded. The DRZ or disturbed rock zone on the wall of the dome collapsed into the cavern creating the sinkhole.
