You think that doesnt add up to 50%?

In one of his WWII books Steven Ambrose went through the psychological progression of a combat soldier:

1. It can't happen to me. I am too smart, special, well loved, etc. The risks are overblown.

2. It happens, but the people it happens to made mistakes, were unlucky, etc. I'm not like them.

3. It could happen to me, but I can prevent it by being careful, not taking chances, etc.

4. It will happen to me and there's nothing I can do about it.

It seems like the majority here are in phase 1, with some moving into phase 2. A few are already in phase 3.

for non-caucasion, 50% isn't a far-fetched number.
