Eye pokes. The sleeper was his finisher. Still 10x more entertaining than the spot-monkeys these days.

He won the WCW heavyweight championship a few times.
And was on the Mario Bros Super Show

Pretty good acting by Superfly
He wasn’t acting. He really got nailed with it. They couldn’t gimmick little holes in it to make it explode easier, so he planted him with it to make it explode. Hegot drilled with it for real. Here’s a YouTube video of Piper taking about it. 11 mins long but it’s good stuff.

Everyone should seek-out the edition of Piper’s Pit featuring perennial tomato can Frank Williams. It may be one of the funniest segments to air on all of television in the 1980s. Piper belittles the poor chap until he finds the gumption to stand-up for himself. Roddy beats the bejesus out of the poor chap and Vince McMahon describes it like he just watched a guy kick his dog.

title was a big deal in those days
It's not the belt doofus. Why would you let a one-legged pilled out of his mind Kerry Von Erich take the belt from Hennig? He wasn't allowed more than a cup of coffee as the NWA Champ in a shite territory like Dallas (which is why he got the shot...his daddy put him up in place of his deceased brother), so him grabbing the IC belt for a month at best made that belt important? That belt meant nothing until HBK got it from Bulldog and held it for over a year. He challenged the world champ in Hart at Survivor Series. He made that belt into what it was. Macho Man and Warrior did a good job of making it into an important belt but by 91, it was passed around like a joint.

Wrestling is for retards
I love wrestling. It’s funny as hell to me. Where else can you see 6’ 6”, 275 pound men dressed like transgender queens, throwing each other around?

None of them kick arse or get their arse kicked. It’s fake.

I beg to differ, Pisces Tiger. Randy Savage, the Ultimate Warrior, and Rick Rude were all household names whose runs with the Intercontinental Championship were a good deal more entertaining and important than Shawn Michaels’, in my opinion. One could argue that the Honky Tonk Man did more for the title than Michaels, as he defended the belt against Savage in front of a record-setting viewing audience on NBC in prime-time.

Shockingly, he very very rarely lost clean.

See I like where you were coming from until Honkey. He had over a year reign as IC champ and every single match he won was by DQ or he was DQ'd, meaning he wouldn't lose the belt. He was embarrassed by the Warrior as he knew he was leaving. What was it? 90 seconds?
The IC belt in WWF might as well have been the TV Title in WCW.

He was awesome in the late ‘70s/early 80s.

Hart grabbing the belt from Piper IMO nade the belt more legitimate than ever. Vince was still in the Hogan train and outside of Savage, the guys who were allowed shots at the world title were HUGE body-built types from Sid Justice (Vicious) to Warrior to Andre to Big John Stud. The IC belt was an eventual de facto light weight cship that went to magnificent wrestlers who were actually skilled ala Hart, HBK. It was cheapened though.

...but one thing the Honky Tonk Man did better than most was making people pay to see him get his arse kicked and lose the championship he obviously didn’t deserve. While Hulk Hogan headlined big arenas defending the WWF Championship against the top heel challengers, the Honky Tonk Man defended his belt in the main events of smaller shows across the country. He was an invaluable player during my favorite era of the WWF. Consider that he was the antagonist behind the formation of the Mega-Powers AND the man the Warrior toppled to reach super-stardom...

Mr. Perfect held the IC belt for like a total 300 days from when Warrior vacated it in 4/90 until 8/91.
92 is when it got passed around...
And I’m not sure how much prestige Shawn brought to that especially since he was suspended for steroids and vacated the IC.

I would equate it to the US Championship in WCW/NWA. The holder of the IC title was the de facto “number one contender” for the world title.

I’ll never forget Big Poppa Pump calling him a “skirt wearing Q” on national tv.
