Sitting on my front porch overlooking my 20 acres. Haven't seen a soul that isn't my family all day, haven't even seen a vehicle.

If I want to go do "city" things I will drive there. I'm good where I'm at most of the time though.

I’d live in my small quiet town full of like minded people that I know personally over any big city.

If I want big city attractions I’ll visit there. frick living there

shite take. Some are St. Francisville and some are Bogalusa.

Like cities, some are nicer and some are shitholes.

Small towns in places like west Tennessee, the rust belt, and west Texas are pretty depressing

I grew up in a town so small that even if you met someone who lived there for the first time, you both already have heard of the other. Now I live in the giant DFW Metroplex. Nobody knows nobody. That can be good or bad.

Both have their charms, but the larger cities come with better medical care, a lot more options for cuisine and a plethora of entertainment options.

Small towns mean you get invited to people's homes for parties. But you better be at church on Sunday or people will talk. Yes, they will.

my small town hometown has a lot of educated/respectable /intelligent boomers and older, but like 90% of those boomers’ kids left so now everyone still there under 30 or is fat and retarded

Without small towns, how would they make Hallmark Christmas movies? The plot requires the girl from the small town to come home from the big city and cheat on her fiancee that stayed behind because he was working to support them with some dude she went to high school with that never left.

Nothing wrong with a small town unless you have a problem with peace, quiet, and safety.

My wife loves Cullman. Can’t believe I forgot it. Highly recommend either Oktoberfest or their Christmas festivals.

Quite literally rotting. The old historic wooden architecture doesn't last in the humid climates of the south and are much better preserved in the northern latitudes. With investment and refurbishment, it could last. But that is not happening in small towns in the south.

True, the humidity doesn’t do us any favors, and most places are wood anyway — not the stone or brick you see up north. When the city or local businesses aren’t proactive, entropy sets in fast, no matter the climate.

Population 18,954 (2024)

That's a small town in my book, what's your definition? if it's 600, then yes small towns suck (but I don't think that's a town).

I prefer small towns, due to the nature of my career though living in one is not an option. It's either stay in the city or live in poverty.
