I have a 15 year old Gravely push mower, most reliable thing I’ve ever bought. Finally this summer, it started spit & sputtering.
Gravely mowers are just about freaking bulletproof. I love those things.

I wore the wheels out on my Sears craftsman push mower. I used it to cut around my trees and my wife's flower beds. I replaced the simple carb once but when I went to buy new wheels (I had wallored out the hubs) I found the price of wheels was so prohibitive to replace on an old clapped out push mower.
So I bought a new gas powered Honda.

Millennials would probably throw it away and just buy a new one.
Most millennials seem to think Gen Z's are Millenials.

Can I? Yes
Is my time more productively spent doing something else vs the cost of having someone else do it or simply replacing it?

I just buy the carbs for 20.00 and save the time.

used to be able to buy lead fuel additive at auto parts stores, I'm sure you can probably find it online these days

100LL at the mini-airports you just fly past. It will dye all your stuff blue though. Ain't cheap either.
That said I don't know how much use leaded gas is for small engines. Premature detention isn't an issue as the compression ratios are generally low and I am unaware of any valve/valve seat wear issues in small engines.

the people I knew that used to get the 100LL and the lead additive were getting it for old muscle cars
ETA: when I lived in FL there was a station(Amoco?) near me that sold 110 leaded

I've been nursing an 18 year old Briggs & Stratton for 18 years now.
The only thing that's not original are the two front pulling wheels and the cranking cord.
And I've had motorcycles torn down (to my wife's chagrin) in parts on the garage floor a few times.

Does absolutely nothing but build deposits on sparkplugs and puts lead into the air for you to breathe. Really stupid thing to do when cheaper non-ethanol gas is available or just run a decent 89 octane E10 with Stabil 360 or Stabil Marine.

We used to use av gas but for the octane not specifically for the TEL content. It is a lot cheaper in the long run just to pull the heads and replace the valves and seats on an old engine than to pay for leaded AV gas which has gotten outrageous. Various high-octane race fuels are easier to find and cheaper these days.
I still question the benefit of leaded fuel in small engines. They don't need the octane and most of them are aluminum so they have hardened valve seats. I have never seen any erosion of the valves or seats but admittedly I have never owned any really high-hour small engines.

oh yeah, that's what everyone wanted, don't think there's been leaded avgas in a lonnnnng time

The AV 100LL is low lead and AFAIK is the only leaded fuel still generally available. It runs about $12-13 a gallon by the drum.

You basically just described me, unfortunately. Wasn't blessed with the patience of my fathers. Trying to figure it out though. I just want to get it done, and feel like anything slowing me down is a hindrance. Need to involve my boys more than just holding the flashlight.

correctly I.D. this engine.
Too easy
Considering That 70 seconds in I knew what it was, but I was a child of the 70s that popped out of the womb with grease under my fingernails and a 1/4 torque wrench in my stubby little hands. Mine was red with a black stripe with almost as much chrome as a Harley dresser.
