Oh St. Tammany, no casino so instead they'll take a couple more dollar store anchored strip malls and an apartment complex. Congrats I guess.

I would gladly vote for the casino if they permabanned the emboldened above.

This wasn’t a vote just in having a casino in Slidell. It was a vote to repeal the 1996 parish ban on casinos that would allow it to be built. Once that was repealed it would be open casino season in St. Tammany. A lot of political palms would have been greased then. The Slidell casino was a Trojan horse. The real gem they want is the Mandeville lakefront casino. Think traffic is bad now? Sheeeeeeeettttt.

Govt and politicians are heavily involved in all casinos. This was in essence, an anti-govt vote.

It was put to a vote by the people. The people spoke loudly. What the hell is wrong with that?

As a poster earlier in this thread stated, the opposition to this casino very rarely if ever brought up moral opposition to gambling.

The residents of Slidell and St. Tammany parish in general distrusted the politicians and developers. They new this was not going to be the panacea they were promised and they didn’t want a shitty casino that sucked the dollars out of the lower class and ended up as a run down eye sore.

Too bad your not educated enough to read more than the headline…”casino to build in Slidell”. If you were encouraged to read more in life you would see what a shite operator this was. Laid out for anyone to see in black and white. But you stick to being a moronic keyboard cowboy. The world needs ditch diggers too.

It was not so much a vote on the casino as it was a sign that STP residents have lost all confidence in parish leadership. The relationship beteween parish gov't and P2E appeared to be a little too cozy, and their inability to move the needle on major issues (most notably traffic & infrastructure) eroded any trust the citizens had in them. It should not go unnoticed that much of the casino fanfare comes on the heels of an epic fumble that sent a major distributor with major expansion plans (Medline) to a neighboring parish. It's at least plausible that the casino was a makeup call for that blown opportunity and an effort to save face. This was going to be their legacy: have P2E buy out the residents of the parish like the Indians who sold Manhattan. Re-election time will make for a great spectator sport...
