Smart move to go with CSRS. They know which palms need to be greased.

I'd say they got it on lock.

I’m actually surprised at how similar Amazon’s business model is to Sear’s mail order business from 75 years ago. It’s a basically just a modernized version.
Yup, just online instead of via mail-in forms.
Just amazing how Sears got blown past.

That's one big arse copy room they are planning.

I’ve been to the largest Walmart distribution center in the country. To this day it is one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen. Runs 24/7, has to be the largest building I’ve ever been in. It’s amazing what Operations of this size are capable of.
A couple of highlights were the freezer room, where I walked through an open roll up door to see a line on the floor. Noticed guys wearing snowmobile suits, and I asked the MGR why? He told me to step over the line and the temp dropped from 70-> 30. Almost Instantly.
They also have a ripening room, where fresh produce is kept to get it to the appropriate level to distribute to stores. Feels like a rainforest.

quote:A couple of differences: Sears never put locally owned businesses out of business, and Sears'majority owner wasn't a totalitarian communest (how ironic is that?). At least you could keep the old Sears Robuck catalog in the outhouse to use as toilet paper, and the Christmas catalog was one of my very favorite books when I was a little kid.

There is no way for you to know this.

CSRS is a shell of its former self. Take away MOVEBR and that firm collapses in on itself.

Sure they did. So did Walmart who was the big evil empire 20-30 years ago

You could buy a house - plans, materials, and all - and have it shipped to you. You don't think that impacted the local construction supply houses?
Every item Sears sold and shipped to you, was an item that was not available locally, or was an item that could get to you cheaper or easier than shopping locally.
It's the exact same thing as Amazon.

Oh, PT board has infected us again, lovely...

FALSE
Before Amazon put shopping malls out of business, shopping malls put main street out of business.

Who do I need to call about getting a job there?
Don’t like where I’m at currently.... and no, it’s not McDonald’s
It’s Wendy’s.
But seriously I have finance/accounting background and they should have some decent positions right?

it also has a 5 story office building attached to it. There's also about 1400 parking spaces with room to expand, so that's probably an indicator of how many employees they'll need per shift when they fully scale up.
They've had a good twenty years to 6-lane Florida east beyond Cortana and Airline north beyond Cortana without much traffic worry other than morning and evening rush times. Now they're going to wish they had made the attempt.

They need to be 6 lanes (8 in some cases) to handle the current peak traffic load properly. Amazon will definitely add to that, although a lot of their traffic may not necessarily be at rush hour.

Probably have a few. They have a 50,000 square foot office building for SOMTHING.

AG's freezer is like that (Anselmo Lane in BR).

BR needs to upgrade the 61/190 intersection and improve both of those corridors through the city bigly for this.

Did a quick Google search... At 2.9m square ft, it would be the second largest warehouse building in the world (behind the 4.3m sq ft Boeing assembly plant in Everett, WA). That can’t be right?

There was a huge mall there with an access road and at least 3-4 ways to enter/exit. So it’s not as dire as most of major arteries in Baton Rouge. It’s got a cloverleaf with a low enough speed that trucks can handle easily.
The problem is Airline IMO. Particularly Airline between I-12 and I-110 through Baton Rouge. It flows poorly. And has been ignored for decades.

Might be. It’s definitely one of the largest in Amazon’s network.
The one in Little Rock is even bigger than this. Not open yet. Still under construction.
