Site plan for Amazon's new massive Cortana Facility approved

No mystery as to why they needed the Dillard's building.
It's going to be about twice the footprint of the mall it replaces and more than twice as tall.
Even larger than the giant historic post office building in Chicago.

it also has a 5 story office building attached to it. There's also about 1400 parking spaces with room to expand, so that's probably an indicator of how many employees they'll need per shift when they fully scale up.

Seefried wants to demolish Cortana and replace it with a five-level warehouse and office, which would have 2.9 million square feet of space. Documents filed with the Planning Commission call for 1,251 parking spots at the site, an indication of how many employees might work at the facility.
The Atlanta-based company works closely with Amazon. In April it handled the purchase of a 34.3-acre site on Bethany Church’s Industriplex campus. That property is now home for Amazon’s South Baton Rouge Distribution Center, a 111,918-square-foot facility. In November, the company bought a 63.3-acre site off La. 415 in Port Allen and filed documents with the West Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court’s office outlining a lease agreement with Amazon.
Amazon is currently building a 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center near Carencro, at the former Evangeline Downs site. That fulfillment center is designed to pick, pack and ship bulky items, such as rugs, patio furniture and outdoor equipment.
Based on the size of the proposed Cortana facility, Marc Wulfraat, a logistics expert who tracks Amazon, said it will handle small, sortable products, less than 18 inches in size. Amazon typically pairs fulfillment centers that carry sortable products with those that handle larger items, he said.

Smart move to go with CSRS. They know which palms need to be greased.

Jeeze, that’s a massive building.

I can’t stand Amazon or their China junk. I guess at least people will have jobs.

Non-binary, queer people of color owned.

I'm pretty sure the one in Carencro is the largest building in Lafayette Parish.

Where are they putting the defensive positions with automatic weapons? They have to leave enough room for concertina wire around the perimeter.

I don't think it's limited to 18" or less. But the Carencro hub is focusing on BIG items (like skis or basketball goals, etc.).
I don't think "massive" really captures the scale of this building. It's giant. And it will be among the most automated facilities that Amazon has ever built, likely containing thousands of robots.

The new Carencro facility is huge. And the one in Cortana will be about 2,000,000 square feet larger than the one in Carencro.

I’m actually surprised at how similar Amazon’s business model is to Sear’s mail order business from 75 years ago. It’s a basically just a modernized version.

Hopefully not the one who built Hard Rock Hotel...
