YouTube is amazing. My dad (he's 77) told me that if he had YouTube when he was younger, he would have taken over the world.

The very first car I learned how to drive had a clutch. 3-on-the-tree.

I actually thought it was really cool. It reminds me of the gigantic cutaway displays of diesel engines I saw at a Workboat Expo. My tiny female brain loves seeing how things work.

cads cars:
- '77 Datsun pickup truck (clutch)
- '87 Honda Accord lxi (clutch)
- '91 Acura Legend (clutch)
- '97 Toyota 4Runner (clutch) <-- current vehicle

i have never opted for an automatic since the day i realized i could fred-flinstone start my car in the event the battery died.

eta and yes i hold onto my vehicle for a frick-a-long time. deal with it.

Youtube has become the world's largest encyclopedia and how to manual. I love it.

i have tackled vehicle repairs, electrical projects and appliance repairs i would never have DREAMED OF 20 years ago.

its insane how easy some of these repairs are that you'd pay a shop $1,500 to do.

Something about this in gif format with jerky start/end makes it hard to follow.

ETA - To be clear, I learned to drive a 84 Ford Bronco and have a general idea of how a manual transmission works, but I find myself distracted with the gif alone.

Work filters won't allow YouTube. I'm sure it makes sense in that context. I'll check it out on mobile.

ETA - Right side drive.

video is great. shows how the tranny is released when you push the clutch in, how the gears shift (and the torque sweet-spot for each) and how to use the clutch on an incline.

unfortunately it doesn't show the technique we have to use here in TN for getting started on a 20%+ grade..you gotta set the ebrake while engaging the clutch or you will burn it up.

Hell, 2/3 of the posters here can't drive clutch.

I can but my bitch arse still stalls out on the occasional uphill stop.

Nothing wrong with that. I hate car payments and full coverage insurance, so I run mine till they die.
