I drove manual cars until I moved to an area with massive traffic where automatic is easier. But I just rebuilt my BMW, so I'll cruise this summer on the Pacific coast.

Where can a grown man go nowadays to learn how to drive a standard without judgement?

Do you have access to a standard? If so, a school parking lot in the summer. That's where I learned. But I was also 15 at the time.

Any male over the age of 15 should already know all this.

I actually thought it was really cool. It reminds me of the gigantic cutaway displays of diesel engines I saw at a Workboat Expo. My tiny female brain loves seeing how things work.

the new manuals have a brake hold feature (at least the ones i've driven) so it takes the fun out of driving on hills

I haven't driven a new manual. My third car is a 30 year old BMW I rebuilt myself. I'll have to try a new manual one of these days.

I love it. I am one of the few people in my generation that knows how to drive stick. Hell, probably one of the very few that enjoys driving manual as well.

Third vehicle is a five speed sequential with an anti stall installed.

With a rear locker, it will humble anyone not familiar with it

The first time I pulled into traffic and stalled it, I nearly pissed myself

The car we had for drivers ed was a three on the tree. There was a steep hill that the instructor would take us to and he would put a traffic cone behind the rear bumper. You had to heel and toe it 3X without knocking the cone over before you could pass his class. Those poor cars took a beating.
