I've been watching some air disasters videos on YT. It's fascinating to watch these bad situations and how the pilots deal with it.
Watched one where the plane could only go up. The pilot had to use the engines to get it to level off and land it. Crazy stuff.

yep, they, and I'm guessing that's Envoy, are giving huge sign on bonuses for guys with even less quals than him to go out and build time just so they'll legally be able to fly for the regional, it was $30k the summer before last, might be higher now

I was on a plane landing at MSP in some strong winds and the right wing tip came about a foot or two from hitting the ground when we landed, then the left wheels slammed down. It was a little unnerving.
Everyone gasped, and most probably shite themselves as well.

you might be a prime candidate for the Air Guard, shorter route, FAA flight time requirements reduced, have a job when you get out of pilot training, build time and start applying

Piedmont I believe. I should have gone to one a few years ago, but just couldn't bring myself to go back to the regionals. So, here I sit clawing my way to 1500 and an unrestricted ATP(I have my restricted). I'm close, and hoping to get a call in the next year or so.

Reserves... I fly a decent amount, but nowhere near what I did at ExpressJet. 250 hrs is a great year for me on the mil side.

That's my philosophy, I just renewed my airlineapps account last month and cleaned up my application. The hope is that being right at min time with a few hundred hours of TPIC in a transport category aircraft might at least score an interview.

it's going to happen, I can all but guarantee it, the demand is incredible, I would try to avoid the flow through thing and go straight to the big leagues, just don't let up on getting your name out there until you get results, can't emphasize that strongly enough, a seniority number means everything and they are absolutely throwing money at pilots these days, good luck

If you're interested in the mil route at all, take a look at baseops.net. There is some great info on there in the Guard/Reserve section about getting a pilot slot. I don't know if I would have gotten to pilot training without it.

I was in a cockpit of a KC-135 doing a landing just like this in Scotland. My arse was so clenched. It is one thing looking out a side window, but seeing it head on is beyond freaky. Kudos to the AF pilots that pulled it out, it was nothing to them.

I've thought about it. They'd probably haul me off though. I've got two friends there for new hire training right now. I'm 32 and AA is at the top of my list for pax carriers. Baws are about to totally flip their seniority list in the next few years. This post was edited on 1/7/19 at 3:14 pm
