that guy had a bunch of drugs in the car and in his system not sure how that compares to fleeing the accident tho.

I will say that was beyond sick of Mustangs, Chargers, Camaros, and Challengers street racing and driving recklessly in town. Weirdly I haven't seen or heard this in over a month now.

Vince Neal got away with that in the 1980s

This happened at 10am on a random Tuesday. I have a hard time believing Lacy was drunk at that time.

He's not going to class, and his job at the time is to workout and get ready for the combine. He may not have been slinging them back before jumping into the car, but if he was going hard to 2-4am he would still fail a field sobriety test.

Also, the comment was drugs or alcohol. Similar to the alcohol scenario I laid out, when did he stop "partying", did he wake & bake...

Oooooh...I like that angle. Let him go play in the NFL, and not jail, but here's the caveat.

He's basically playing for the family. What he's making basically goes to them. He doesn't get to wear the fancy chains and live in a fancy house.

That is an interesting sentencing idea. I've always believed families should be a part of the sentencing. It would benefit them in the long run financially, but perhaps they don't need it (nor want it) and just want justice served.

I think Lacy should serve serious time, but what he did was nowhere near as bad as Stansey.

Lacy caused the accident but didn't not hit anyone. This Stansey dude hit someone head on and WAS the accident. And Stansey didnt leave the scene because his vehicle was totaled. And by all accounts, Lacy wasnt blitzed out of his mind on pills.

Each case is a little different and each Parish punishes a little differently. The lightest I have ever seen in a case like this is 2 years and the worst was 20 years. It is an enumerated offense so the offender doesn't get the benefit of usual good time. Given the notoriety and location, I think he gets offered 10 and if convicted will probably get 15.

First off, I do not condone what Kyren did.

That being said, legally, he's got a shot to get this reduced even further.

The police report is an awful read. It states that Kyren caused the accident by passing vehicles in a no passing zone. The very next sentence that was reported in the news
quote:

'Following the crash, Lacy drove around the crash scene and fled south on LA Hwy 20 without stopping to render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash,’ read the police statement.

How do you cause an accident by passing cars, but then have to drive around the crash scene?

Also, why did the other driver turn INTO oncoming traffic, instead of the shoulder?

quote:

'Traveling behind the pickup truck was a Kia Cadenza whose driver swerved left to avoid the oncoming Dodge Charger.

'As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound Kia Sorrento.'

Also, the unfortunate soul who passed was in the passenger seat and didn't take the head on that the driver passed. Any underlying health conditions will be looked at as a cause instead of the vehicle accident.

If he gets 15 after being convicted (I presume you mean at trial) then he has this guy as his lawyer:

He ran from the scene. We don't know if he was on drugs or alcohol.

What makes you believe drugs or alcohol were likely not involved? It looks like that is most likely the reason he bailed from the scene

What do you mean “it looks like” when there’s a complete lack of evidence to support your completely fabricated belief?

He’s a young kid without a mature brain. We all made stupid decisions and stupid judgements at that age. He might have left the scene because he honestly believed he did not cause an accident.

Likely? How would you know? It’s like me saying he was drunk or high. How would I know? But when you leave the scene suspicious starts to arise.

There are a lot of moving pieces here - Lacy's age, likely not drug or alcohol related, etc., that could result in a lighter sentence.

I agree with all your points. All are mitigating factors for sentencing.

What issue could possibly be up for vote?

Yeah, it could but if you were high or drunk, leaving is definitely the way to go. No way to prove you were.

15 years would be impressive considering the statute doesn’t allow for a sentence that long
