We didn't have one when I "graduated" in 99.

They had one for 8th grade at my junior high. I kept smarting off about how dumb it was and refusing to participate in the practice ceremonies, etc. A teacher said somehing about how I did not have to participate, and I called their bluff.

They were shocked that a kid would not want to march, and the principal made me get parental approval. Once I bailed, several other kids bailed too.

I did do HS graduation but skipped college. They mailed me a diploma.

No regrets. I hate boring ceremonial bullshite.

Idk. I think it depends. I went to a private school and it was K-8 so leaving was sort of a big deal since you were there for so long.

Come on, this is the only accomplishment Bison is able to claim as his own. Don’t take this away from the Bison’s of the world.

When did they start? First I have heard of this. Understand there used to be kindergarten graduations. Thank goodness schools in our are do not participate in such useless BS.

You have reached a new high (or low) in your Catholic bashing. Sorry you hate God, but do you have to turn that hatred into hatred for so many others that love him?

The parents aren’t really that proud of Johnny. Parents boasting about their kids graduating is a subtle brag social signal to let other people know they aren’t complete frick ups. They have raised a human who now has the tools to not be a complete drain on society.

High school and 8th grade graduations are not about the accomplishment for functioning families but the milestone it represents..

Seems pretty pointless these days.

They were pointless in May of 1984 when I finished 8th grade. I didn't even go to mine and glad my Dad didn't make me go.

This.

My kids (Metairie) went to the same Catholic GRAMMAR school for 9 years, from pre-K to 7th grade, as is common in this system. It's a milestone thing for them, not an accomplishment kind of thing. For 9th grade, they all split up-- boys go to different high schools than girls, both boys and girls go to their choice of one of about 2-3 schools each.

The pre-K and Such graduations are absolutely ridiculous. The only reason they exist is so women can take pictures for social media.
