re: Should We Continue to Have 8th Grade Graduations?

I've never understood the point of a 5th grade or 8th grade graduation.
It's unwise (IMO) to reward children (or anyone) before they achieve the goal they are after.
Maybe if schools and parents didn't reward excellence for completing nonsense like 8th grade, more kids would be inclined to fight for the scholastic respect they are being trained and taught to achieve?

Never heard of any school having an 8th grade graduation. What schools do this?

The graduation should only happen upon completion of the last grade the school offers.

I have no problem with it...as long as it is kept in perspective. It is a nice milestone for the kids. It becomes a pain in the arse when parents and relatives overhype it and expect everyone else to take time out to deal with it.

I didn’t have my first graduation till high school. Had a nice awards assembly after elem and middle. Kindergarten grad is one thing but pre-K grad is a bit ridiculous.

I'm sick and tired of hearing all these parents say how proud they are of johnny graduating high school. I mean come on now how fricking hard is it to get a high school diploma!
Yes, how dare parents be proud of their children and celebrate a moment in their life.. What a bunch of dickbags......

Pre-k, K, and 8th grade graduations are stupid.
An 8th grade graduation at an actual grade school isn't stupid because some kids attend for 8 years and finish, go in different directions and transition to a high school. I agree though about Pre-K, K and 8th grade high school graduations. It's pointless if they are already at a new high school and just going from 8th to 9th grade.

My son won't celebrate his. He's going to an all boys school from 7th-12th. Finishing 8th just means 4 more years.

I have no problem with a ceremony for a kid changing schools, but im not a miserable person like most here.

The only real graduations are from trade school.
