Federal Law:
Federal law prohibits individuals who have been "adjudicated as a mental defective" or "committed to a mental institution" from possessing, receiving, or transferring firearms.

I think Mr Kirk would say the government has no right to infringe on private ownership of arms, and that what happened to him was the result of countless social, medical and religious failures which breed the type of hate that ultimately killed him

I think the first thing to get through is whether or not it should be a mental illness. I think there are people with mental illness who claim they are trans.
