I can't believe I know this but many Louisianans apparently don't.

The British Conquest of French Acadia happened in 1710. Over the next 45 years, the Acadians refused to sign an unconditional oath of allegiance to Britain. During this period, Acadians participated in various militia operations against the British and maintained vital supply lines to the French fortress of Louisbourg and Fort Beausejour.[7] During the French and Indian War (part of the Seven Years' War and known by that name in Canada and Europe), the British sought to neutralize the Acadian military threat and to interrupt their vital supply lines to Louisbourg by deporting Acadians from Acadia.[8] During 1755–1763 Acadia consisted of parts of present-day Canada: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and the Gaspe Peninsula in the province of Quebec. The deportation of the Acadians from these areas has become known as the Great Upheaval or Le Grand Dérangement.

This is the great injustice that the British committed against the Cajuns?
I would have kicked you coonasses out too.

A very limited number of acadians participated in those acts and they deported the entire country.

The reality is the acadians built an incredible system of dikes and waterways and the British saw an opportunity to bring in settlers with infrastructure already in place.

They called a mandatory vote among the voting male population and rounded up the women and kids while the men were off. It was terror tactics by a fascist government.

Ultimately the joke was on the British, the settlers who came in struggled to farm the lands the acadians had prepared.

The entire deportation is the reason why a lot of louisianians have such a devil may care attitude. These people lost everything, multiple times. They saw their country abandon them repeatedly. The only thing they came to rely on were their friends, family, and neighbors.

Louisiana gets a bad rap for a lot of things... But when shite hits the fan, we smile and keep on going.

. I assumed Galvez's forces that took Baton Rouge, Mobile, etc were mostly made up of Islanos

Actually one of my ancestors fought with Galvez as one of the officers. He was French by birth but living along the German Coast at the time.

The brits are too broke to pay all the reparations they owe, they built their empire on stealing, something the brexits don’t seem to realize is no longer an option.

As well you should. We should all get paid. I also suggest that we begin incarcerating all those related to criminals of violent or other incarcerating crimes. We should do this in a reasonable way, so I suggest we only go back 10 generations or so.

If your ancestor did the crime, you must do the time. It is only fair.

No and we should not ask for reparations because if you go back far enough in history everyone has someone in their family that got screwed over. Don’t worry about the past, keep moving forward.

Any member of any group who accepts reparations should have to sign a receipt and release that acknowledges they (and their descendants) have been paid in full, will STFU, and will not bitch or complain about how they or their ancestors were treated.

If they want to do that, give back the money.

Gonna chime in here for whatever reason...

My family were French and settled in Virginia in the early 1700's, so we didn't get kicked out from Acadia. We got kicked out of France for Being Huguenot.

I'll share the story one day, but my ancestors were in the Revolutionary War, 1812, the Civil War... And then Migrated West...

Now a days... You can;t have any good War Movie without SOMEBODY being Cajun... lol
