Right there with you. When you take away their mobility and force them into dependence on others is crippling to their happiness. I had to do it, too.

Ponchy, you and I walked the same road with our parents and I can tell you, as hard as it was, it was the right decision on so many levels.
I just hope I can make it easier for my kids when my time comes. We have already discussed it with them.

No, because then I'll have to drive my 70-something dad around. No thanks. Ask me again in 20 years.

You should have to retake the test at the age of 70

You should have to retake the text every time you renew your license or at minimum every other renewal. There also should be actual hard questions on the test and not the current bullshite.

I’ve got a buddy whose Mom is 101. She lives alone, and still drives everywhere by herself! Graduated from LSU a long, long time ago.

I have a brother over 65 that could still stunt drive for movies.

He could out drive you right now with one hand tied to his belt and one eye covered.

So can I (out drive you), but I'm several years from 65.

One day you will be 65 instead of being young and still wet behind the ears. Your perspective will change as you age. A lot of us in our 60's drive more carefully than the 20 somethings. Out of curiosity would you say the same thing if it applied to your parents. Just curious.

It's a good thing he picked on a woman then, or it could have been much worse.

I think it’s time to address the elephant in the room.. these people are a complete liability on the roads. They don’t pay attention, their motor skills are often limited and they clog up lanes with their slow driving.

And you think that this is worse than Quniecisa attempting to drive while testing, talking on the phone, surfing the net and putting on makeup all while driving?

I do feel once over 65 you should have to renew your license yearly. Written and driving test.

Though I feel everyone should have to totally retest every ten years at least.

I think it’s time to address the elephant in the room.. these people are a complete liability on the roads. They don’t pay attention, their motor skills are often limited and they clog up lanes with their slow driving.

At the very least they should have to go every year to the DMV to take a competency test in order to keep it.

In the modern era there are plenty of ways for the elderly to get around. Ride sharing and public transportation are perfectly viable options.

For the first time ever I actually thought about making up a couple of alts just to downvote the OP more than once.

Sheeeesh, does he have a karma kickback coming at 65 or what.

My main problem as 65 was getting out of bed in the morning and making it to the kitchen to take my pain pill. Driving was/is the least of my worries.

lmao my grandpa is 72 and he drove himself to the emergency room after he cut his pinkie finger off on a table saw. Some old folks can drive just fine.

No.

But they should be required to take a driving test (either on the road or simulation) every year for license renewal.
