Why is this even a question?

Unfortunately, the only joggers who learn to account for distracted drivers only learn the lesson once.

lol that's dumb. there are millions of runners out there who account for distracted drivers on every run and dont get hit. i assume every car coming by me has a sixteen year old girl watching tiktok behind the wheel.

A few weeks ago, I was turning right to leave our neighborhood. My light was green. A runner was crossing in front of me from right to left and he threw his hands up at me when I turned in front of him. If there was a Walk/Don't Walk sign, his sign would have said 'Don't Walk' and he would have to yield to traffic coming out of the neighborhood. Why should the laws be any different when there's not a sign?

One of my biggest pet peeves is watching idiots jogging on the side of the road when they have a perfectly good sidewalk. Every time I pass an idiot I make sure my side mirror misses them by inches. Their looks of absolute fury gets me excited.

Call the cops, I dare you. It's a state law requirement that pedestrians use the sidewalk when one is available.

If you are ever driving fast enough in your own neighborhood to have to slam on the brakes, you are the problem

you sound like a real piece of shite. there are a million reasons running on the road is far safer and superior to running on the sidewalk in most cases.

Dumb people do dumb things. Laws don't fix that. We have drivers that drive looking at their phone. We have drivers that stop in the middle of the interstate because of a dog. We have people who cross streets 50 feet from the crosswalk. We have people who think biking with traffic going 45 mph is their right.

Your one moment of angst should not be the catalyst to govern via lowest common denominator.

People are dumb.

The fact that so many don't seem to know the actual law (running/walking) is always facing oncoming traffic, combined with drivers (now the majority) who ignore, or worse, don't even know basic driving laws, then toss in cellphones for 4 out 5 drivers and the "yield to pedestrians" rule is moot.

Whether im on my bike or running, i use the laws of physics to determine if i yield or not, not traffic laws.

I don't give a shite if I'm in the right, won't do me much good if I'm getting smoked by a 4000 lb SUV with some white lady who is distracted on instagram

You're asking a very common sense question.

honestly, what do you think the answer to this asinine question is?

Vehicles yield to pedestrians

Not in many towns. In my town, pedestrians (including walkers and joggers/runners) and bikers are regarded as a "target of opportunity."
