Nearly all of JP's shithole apartment complexes are in unincorporated JP. Metairie becoming a city would prevent more shithole complexes from popping up. Metairie having it's own police force would also help keep crime in check (needs to happen sooner than later as the apartments along I-10 Service Rd are declining fast). Gretna has relatively low crime despite being surrounded by shite (Algiers and unincorporated Harvey) thanks to its police force.

Metairie doesn’t have a mayor either.

It’s just not incorporated...

Hope it never does go that way..

St George probably wouldn't be trying to incorporate if it was in a different parish than BR

Metairie does not need incorporation.

Pros of incorporating are local control of some tax money. This is a non factor for Metairie as the JP council focuses on Metairie.

Cons of incorporating - more government employees / administrative red tape. This can be controlled to some extent with public/private partnerships but tax dollars are still eaten up by the extra level of government.

Metairie is already well-represented (and probably over-represented) in spending as compared to non-Metairie areas of Jefferson parish, so I doubt there will be a push for this in our lifetimes.

Metairie public high schools, East Jeff, Grace King and Rummel

You’re an idiot. Rummel is a Catholic school.

The next school for Metairie Academy and Airline Park are Haynes or Patrick F Taylor. Haynes is a public high school in Metairie. It has the highest average ACT, % of class being national merit semi finalists, and % that qualifies for TOPS of ANY high school in the state.

Not saying I am going to send my kids there, but it’s not a bad option.

That's just dumb. Gretna is barely surviving. There are reasons why most businesses especially on the westbank are located in those areas.

Name an incorporated city Jefferson Parish bigger than Metairie or Harvey or Algiers?

I assume an incorporated Metairie would look a lot like Kenner. Does Kenner really benefit from incorporation? Just seems like another level of government for corruption. These towns in Jefferson made sense when the parish was rural. Harahan seems to have some benefit in being small and having the most elite police force in the nation :)

I live in Metairie and feel like my taxes are well spent. My kids go to a great public elementary school (always top 3 in state) for free, all the playground sports cost $4 plus uniform for the season, my home value steadily increases, roads are smooth, and I don't worry about flooding because of pump problems.

Hey buddy I know what it feels like to "want" things to be great, truly I do. But you can lie to your friends and I can lie to mine, but for the love of all that is holy in this world let's not lie to each other bud.

Metairie gets more from JP than any over area. For example, Lafreniere park is supported by a fee charged to every household in the parish on their water bill. No other park gets that funding.

Metairie should be bounded by causeway, the lake, 17th st canal, and Earhart. Everything west should be Kenner
