Most of you support small government. Should states have the right to let parents voluntarily enroll their children in school. In modern times, access to supplies to learn reading and writing is easily available.

Also, the majority of parents would send their kids to school anyway. The ones who dont most likely would be negligent towards their children and probably would let then become disciplinary problems.

I want to know how small government should be regarding education. If you have an alternative way to pay for voluntary education, share it.

I'm small government, but it should absolutely be a requirement.

We have enough dumb fricks in society, we don't need to create more.

There is also a major socialization aspect to school that should not be overlooked.

You mean like homeschooling them? That already exists.

It should absolutely be a requirement. The better question is should we change the required courses and that answer is YES! Too many wasted hours on teaching things that are irrelevant and not enough hours teaching real world skills.

Homeschooling is already an option.

And is 9-12 required? What's the actual requirement there?

No, but with the caveat that bot going up to a certain grade makes you ineligible for govt assistance later in life.

Is it really too much to ask that the folks getting govt aid have a GED, vocational certificate, etc?

Any parent who would voluntarily discontinue a child's education should not be presented with the choice to do so.

Education should always be a priority, no matter what one's political affiliation. The problem is efficiency. How to maximize the bang for the educational dollar. Public school systems need decrease non-essential personnel. Students need to be motivated at home as well as in the classroom.

Mind your own business.

Also, you’re assuming that the education system is comparatively better (than other alterntives and past systems) at producing well-educated and well-socialized young people. What is your evidence for this?

Kids should be required to go to school.

Having to go to school allows some kids, who otherwise would have no opportunity at all, to overcome the environment they were raised in.

With that said, I think there needs to be reform throughout the whole educational system.

I agree. Get rid of all school sports. Coaches are dead weight and sports feed rampant narcissism. The community can sponsor sports teams, if desired.

Terrible parents shouldn’t be able to ruin their children who do not yet realize their parents are terrible. Forcing kids to goto school and learn (hopefully) something is a good thing and should continue.
