And is 9-12 required? What's the actual requirement there?
Students are not allowed to withdraw from school until they are 18 years old or have completed the 12th grade.

It’s pretty easy to simple say “I’m home schooling” and never put your kid in K-12.
Having said that, school needs to be compulsory at least through 6th grade. If you can’t read, write or do basic arithmetic then you’re going to be a burden on everyone else.
After that, I’d entertain the idea but you have to have the kid working. You’d have to lower the legal employment age to make that work but I’d be for it. Maybe if the dropout 12 yo has a crap job for a few months he’ll reevaluate his views on education.

No. And preschool should be mandated. These parents don't know how to parent.

I thought you only had to be schooled until you were 16

Test them at age 8.
Trades are good for most.
Start them young on gardening.
Electricians.
Database programmers.
Medical tech.
High school could mean something.
Sure, teach English grammar and Shakespeare too.

Why you don't you do some research on countries that don't mandate education past a certain age and see what they look like. We'll wait.

In Japan and a lot of European countries you are tested at the equivalent of out 8th grade and based on your test results placed in either a college or vocational track. In some of the programs those in the vocational track stop traditional classroom subjects at age 16 and enter full time job apprenticeship. The U.S. could definitely benefit form this type of system.
