If you stay, don't start a thread asking for GoFundMe donations

Maybe
If you were listening to the OT for guidance you would have thought nukes would be landing on you three months ago.

I have been staying in Lysychansk in East Ukraine close to the Russian border. I'm in Kharkiv tonight because I fly out from here.

If Russia invades, this will be under Russian control very quickly. The area I was staying in is residential and not really a military target. I will just be under Russian control. I don't plan on evacuating at that point. I will just stay and pretend I'm Ukrainian. Once it settles down in a few months, I will drive to Warsaw and fly back with the family.

I’d consider staying in Ukraine too

Is the threat of intentional violence to Americans anywhere near the danger in Afghanistan in August?

The biggest danger to foreign nationals and even most Ukrainian civilians is crossfire. And even then, Putin probably has standing orders to minimize civilian casualties in the invasion to discourage NATO intervention.

Keep in mind Ukrainians and Russians actually like each other, especially east Ukraine. It's not like they are going to come in like ISIS.

I get it, but hopefully she's factoring in the fact that you're talking about a potential invasion/war and not an economic rough patch or the grocery being out of milk for a while. Some things you can "ride out" and some things you can't.

Personally, I'm a little too risk averse to let something like that play out.

Russia may or may not invade. Let’s put it at 50 / 50. If they do, I doubt your wife and kid will be specifically targeted. Sure, maybe collateral damage but I’d say there is maybe a 25% chance of that if there is even an invasion. So now we are at a 25% likelihood of any harm. Now the chances of minor injury, severe or death... well that’s a toss up. You have a 1 in 3 chance of receiving a level of death so1/3 of 25% is about 8%.

Your family has an 8% chance of being killed by the invasion. Not many people would completely alter their lifestyle over an 8% chance

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I’m talking about and suck at math.

if we use the US evacuation of Afghanistan as an example, I’d be getting out.

Stay if you would like to be imprisoned by Russia and used as a political game piece.

Stipulating the accuracy of these odds, I disagree a lot.

Consider what we did because of a .01% chance of death from Covid.
