Had something of considerable value stolen from me the other day, and filed a report the next morning (Friday). They were extremely condescending and basically made it seem like it was my fault and it was a huge hassle for them to write up the paperwork.

They still haven't assigned an investigator, and told me to watch CL and eBay. Said they'd put the word out to this national pawn shop registry. I am thinking the pawn shops that buy illegal stuff wouldn't even be on that registry anyway.

If they haven't even assigned a detective to the case, do I have something like a zero percent chance in getting it back? Have any of y'all had success in dealing with them?

It was insured, so I'm probably just gonna write off NOPD and call the insurance company tomorrow. frick a thief

That's not how it works. You can't open a pawn shop in LA if you plan on knowingly taking in stolen property. They have to report everything that comes into their shops and are always subject to inspections of their records and inventory.

I had something stolen and pawned and got it back due to this.

I kinda wanted to know if they actually did their job and successfully recovered things, or if I'd have to do all of the work

Ex MIL had a bunch of stuff stolen from her a few years back. Turned out to be a family member. He sold the items to two different pawn shops within a mile of the house. He had to show ID to sell the items. What a dumbass.

Zing!

I'm not an imaginative person at all. A lot of my life is hard for people to believe, and I know that from IRL interactions

This is the most they will do. Take their advice and keep looking for it online re-sale sites.

Your best bet is the thief goes on a crime spree gets drunk crashes his car and your property is found when NOPD responds. And then hope the right cop is on the scene and processes the evidence correctly.
