Let's say you have a dog that is 10 years old and develops cancer. However it us treatable and the dog could live another 5-8 years.

Should animals be treated under medical insurance? As it is expensive when they get sick and you have to pay out of pocket.

Yes, at a huge premium but should it be something that is offered at a smaller premium

Trupanion is like 50-100 a month. How is that a “huge” premium relative to what provides? Now you want welfare for pets?

I don't think it's crazy expensive through PetsMart if your has a vet clinic. I don't remember if the one in BR does.

lol...that's not what you initially asked.

Besides, some are just a shade North of $10 p/mo...is that too much for you?

My employer offers it, don’t know what it costs but if it’s in line for what we pay as humans it’s got to be very reasonable.

You're an idiot. How do you reconcile

With the premium being "too high"? Do you want someone to cover your risk at a loss?

Yeah, pet insurance has been a thing for a while now. I have my Yellow-Bellied Weasle, Barnaby, insured with a triple platinum plan.

My pets cost me about 250 bucks a year each and have better insurance than I do. $250 deductible and 90/10 coinsurance after that. It covers fricking ACUPUNCTURE and chiropractic treatments.

I have my own plan, but if I wanted to, I could have them insured through our insurance carrier at work and have the premiums just taken post-tax out of my paycheck.

I agree, TD, this is something that the Biden administration should look into. The child tax credit has helped with my toddlers, but there’s not a lot left over from them after feeding all my pitties. I need support for my dogs too! Maybe something similar to Medicaid?

Got Nationwide through my employer. About $42/month. My dog is 3.5 years old, has had TPLO surgery on his back legs, once this past December and the other leg in August. Both surgeries cost ~$4K each, insurance covered roughly $6,500 of that $8k

Totally worth it as I generally also get money back for yearly checkups/shots, flea and heartworm meds, etc.

Only downfall is having to pay up front then make a claim. I think Trupanion is more like human health insurance. There’s quite a few companies out there now offering pet insurance and I advise anyone with a pet to get it

I pay 1100 a month for health insurance. I’m not paying a dime extra for a pet.
