Seems like a great way to exclude certain folks.

Per seat charge makes sense because you take up the seat regardless if you are very small. SO the solution may be a per seat plus a premium charge for anyone over XXX pounds other than first-class passengers, since they pay a premium already.

Mine are always jammed in there, but I've never found this to be an issue. The pivot point is always above where my knees hit.

I'm OK with it, but it should be a combo of passenger weight + luggage weight.

anything over 300 lbs should absolutely be a premium fee charged by the pound at grocery store price levels for beef by the pound.

I had a thought for a buffet style restaurant. We charge by the pound. You come in we weigh you and then when you leave we weigh you again and charge the difference. You cannot use the restroom while eating.

I recently flew and was in the aisle seat. Big (BIG!) lady comes down the aisle and I think "Please no" but sure enough she plops her shite down in the middle seat. I get up to let her in and before I can sit back down she folds the armrest up.

I say "nope" and push it down (it will only go about halfway down before running into her rolls). She says "it needs to be up or it will pinch me" and I can see where this is going. I wave to the flight attendant and she comes over, I can see from the look in her eyes she knows what is about to happen. Big Girl takes the first swing at the ball and says "I need the armrest up!" I look at flight attendant and can see her trying to formulate a response. She looks at me and I just shake my head "no."

Flight attendant says "wait one second" and heads to the front. At this point all the nearby passengers are watching. FA comes back and says to me "grab your stuff, there is a seat in First Class." As I am grabbing my bags, Big Girl actually has the gall to say "I will take that seat." FA didn't even respond to her and 60 seconds later I am sipping a Vodka Soda.

THAT was a legitimate outcome but I still wonder how they would have resolved it if there was no seat and I insisted on the armrest being down.

I would happily pay more for my ticket if they cut out some seats on a plane to give EVERYONE more room.

- Put actual space between seats so a heavier person "spilling out" isn't even an issue.
- Move back seat rows so there is more leg room for taller folks (which is like everyone taller than 5'5" to be honest).
- Make flying a luxury experience again. People complain about folks wearing PJs to fly, that's just them matching the experience at this point.

What you just described already exists…it’s called first class.

Or if you want to spend a little more you can pony up and fly semi-private.

Southwest gives a free extra seat for fat people per their “customer of size” policy. My initial reaction was anger, but honestly I’d rather them take up 1.5 of their own seats than to cross over into mine.
That's fine...as long as those fat people are the first ones who get bumped when a flight is either oversold or doesn't have enough extra seats to accommodate the number of people who need a 2nd seat to keep their flab to themselves. Otherwise, buy 2 seats

I remember Ricky Gervais doing a bit about this. Basically said that ticket price should be based off your weight plus your luggage weight.

I remember I did a helicopter tour once and they had to evenly distribute the weight to maintain flight balance so before boarding they made everyone step on a scale by the checkin gate and get weighed to determine where they would sit on the helicopter. The women I saw were NOT happy about that when they got to the helipad.

If airlines had a scale out front, their passenger pool would drop considerably.

I’ve got bad news. Not only do the fat people get pre-boarding, but also, they are priority and other will get bumped to accommodate their extra seat if the flight is oversold.

This is Southwest’s reaction to some backlash they received from actor Kevin Smith (Silent Bob).

They got the scales already... Just put people in them with their luggage and just charge a single fee for both.

per seat will work. Just need a measuring tool like they do for carry-on luggage. if a passenger cant sit between two rails equating to a seat dimension, then they must buy two tickets.....

otherwise, even if they pay more for the weight, they are still hanging over into my seat....

I know an old boy who is about 6-6 and weighs about 380. He has paid for two seats and most of the time they put someone in the seat he paid for on standby. Instead of worrying about other folks just fly business class or first class and stay out of the grayhound bus at the back of the plane....

They charge extra for heavier suitcases, so I don’t see why that should be off the table

Sure. But it needs to be extended beyond first class.

so you think a 250 lbs person is too fat and too big to fit in their seats huh?

I used to weigh 250 and yes. No way in hell would I fit in a middle or window seat without inconveniencing the person next to me.
