After growing up in Louisiana, I've never felt afraid or in danger of my life in even the worst parts of DC

Maybe I'm a big dork but I love the National Archives. I'd definitely go there if you haven't been. They have the Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence among other major historical documents. It doesn't take long at all.

I don't know about top notch, but when you pick up your jacket from coat check at the bars there is normally a nonchalant business card dropping in one of the pockets

Not sure what you're down with doing, but if you are looking for social things, I'd check out brightest young things. They do a pretty good job of letting people know what's going on.

You must do drinks at the POV lounge at the top of the W. One of the best bars. The newseum is pretty cool I have to say.

Lived up there over the summer. The Newseum was one of the coolest things I did.

Also, if you are there on Friday, call your local congressman or senator and their office will give you a free tour of the Capitol building. No lines. Skip the video, it is a waste of time.

DC interns from the South are the absolute worst. You might have been the exception but the two interns my office has had from the South were TERRIBLE. It was like they didn't learn anything in college.

However, to be fair, I have a good friend here who went to school at LSU. He was never an intern though, so maybe LSU is a better school than most think.
